Define IR profile manually for chromecast remote ?

Hi,

I just bought a chromecast HD to replace an Amazon Firestick and the quality is amazing.

I have a problem : I would like to use the remote as I used to do it with the Firestick to turn on/off the TV, control de volume etc..

The Chromecast is not able to detect my TV (it is a Polaroid tql39r4pr001), so I select the brand "Polaroid" manually. No one of the configurations tested work for "Polaroid" brand, it is exactly the same with the Firestick. However the firestick is able to "detect" that my TV is an "HKC" (even if it is not) and the IR profile works great (it is nr. 4681 Code Group 1). When I select "HKC" with the Chromecast, no one of the configurations/profiles works.. 😞

So I still use the Amazon remote to control the TV..

Is there any way to configure manually the IR profile on the google Chromecast ? I think amazon and google IR technologies should be the same.. but I do not find any solution.

Thanks for your help.

Michel

Hi Michel2,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. There are hundreds and thousands of TV models from different manufacturers around the world. Even if not listed, some of these follow a particular standard. What you can try is trial and error to determine which brand or model may work. I’m sorry if this is not similar to how you used to pair your Firestick remote with your TV. You can also search online for forums about users of these TVs who found workarounds for getting them to work. I hope it helps. Let us know if you still have questions.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi Kimy,

Thanks for your answer. Yes I tried "trial and error" but for the moment I have not found a model that works with my TV. I searched online for forums but have not found any relevant solution so that is why I post here 🙂

Another thing ! : When I use the main button (big round) or when I cast something from my Android phone or PC, the TV is able to "wake up" by itself. So I guess some signal is brought through the HDMI cable (?). So is there a parameter to change maybe to activate the "shut down" ?

Thanks

Michel

Hello Michel2,

Thanks for the reply. The function that wakes up the TV has something to do with HDMI-CEC communication. It's communication between the Chromecast device itself and the TV, while the remote controls the Chromecast device alone. This is still subjective, and it depends on the TV itself. The only control that the remote can do on certain TVs are the buttons power, volume, and input. And even on recognized or compatible TVs, some can only get one or two functions (power, volume, and/or input). If it’s really not compatible, I suggest you send feedback via Settings > Help and Feedback. It may not be guaranteed to be added, but with the number of users requesting it, Google may coordinate with the manufacturer. Let us know if you have other concerns.

Regards,

Kimy
