Dimly lit scenes and dark skin tones look bad on Chromecast compared to my TV's native apps

I have been searching the internet and it seems like others have this problem but there aren't any good solutions out there (someone said just buy an Apple TV)

I have an LG B2 OLED TV with Chromecast connected via HDMI. I have been adjusting the picture settings for the past week but cannot get my Chromecast to look as good as the TV's native apps (we mostly use YouTube TV, but we also use HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix).

Bright scenes look ok, but dimly lit scenes or people with darker skin tones look too dark - however this does not occur on the TV's native apps

I've tried adjusting:

  • Chromecast settings - Dolby Vision vs HDR vs SDR
  • TV settings - all the different variations of brightness settings

I cannot get the chromecast to look as good as the native apps. It sucks because we like the chromecast screensaver (viewing photo albums)

ok I think I figured it out - changing the Dolby Vision mode from Low Latency to Standard seems to help
