I’ve noticed when using any app on my new Google tv chromecast with 4K, I see frame drops.
I googled it as I see a lot of threads that are closed but don’t have a fix
Is there a setting I’m missing?

Hi folks,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. The update roll-out is still ongoing and hasn’t reached its completion. The patch fix is related to stuttering and distorted display issues that occurred after the previous update. We’re anticipating that all of this will be completed in the coming days. Please bear with us.
Thanks,
Kimy

Hola Kimi. Sabemos algo de la actualización? Gracias

Hi galager,
Thanks for joining this thread. The ticket status still shows open, and the last message I heard was that Chromecast with Google TV 4K is almost complete, while Chromecast with Google TV HD is halfway through. For the 4K version users, kindly check if you’re still experiencing issues, as it’s possible that it’s already completed. For the HD version users, kindly hang on since we're almost there. We’ll keep you posted.
Thanks,
Kimy

Hello galager,
Thanks for the reply. Is your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) running on Android TV OS build STTE.230915.005.S1.10942527? If not, kindly check for updates. You can also do a factory reset one last time for a full clean-up. Let us know how it goes.
I have already sent a message requesting an update on the progress of this bug. I’m just waiting for a reply and will relay the information here.
Regards,
Kimy

Hello, I'm currently on build STTE.230915.005.S1.10942527 and can confirm the issue is still there.
If it helps, there's currently a (very inconvenient) workaround. Whenever there's an overlay on screen (for example the notifications overlay opened by holding the home button), the issue disappears. However, as soon as the overlay is closed, the issue returns.
I also tried by disabling the "match content framerate" which seemed suspicious but it didn't fix it.
I will try doing a factory reset and see if it fixes anything, though lt seems it's an issue on the newest software updates

Hi there,
@agustinmorantes and @galager, proceed with the factory reset, then set it up from scratch. Kindly reply here with the result. We’ll wait for your responses.
Sincerely,
Kimy

I've completed the factory reset and the problem is still there. If it helps, it's especially noticeable when gaming, for example with moonlight gamestreaming or steam link. When activating any kind of overlay such as the notifications overlay, it is immediately noticeable how the motion is smooth how it should be, but as soon as all overlays disappear the motion is stuttery, dropping frames constantly.

To clarify, this didn't happen a few months back. It worked smoothly. The issue started after one of the newest updates.

Can we have an update please? This is still occurring for us and it’s making the device feel unusable

Dear Kimmy,
Do we have any update on the issue?
Thank you very much.

Just updated my chromecast.
The issue is still present as of build STTL.231114.004.11218674
Using moonlight gamestreaming's performance overlay, the chromecast seems to be rendering a few fps below refreshrate, about 56fps on my 60hz tv. When opening the notifications overlay the framerate locks to 60fps. Once closed it returns to 56, making for some really bad framepacing.

Soluciones?

Same exact issue since one of the new updates and I am up to date. Very noticeable stutter disappears when overlay is active and comes back when not. Hopefully someone sees this and gets it checked out.

Still present after the update for me too.
02-09-2024 12:01 PM
I can corroborate that the issue is still present in STTL.231114.
Is there any fix schedule for this problem?
