Google TV Virtual Remote Constantly Disconnecting from Chromecast With Google TV

The virtual remote refuses to stay connected to my Chromecast. I have to use the virtual since most of the buttons stopped working on the physical remote. But it won't stay connected for more than maybe a minute? It will either say "disconnected" or it will get stuck "searching" for the TV, which is frustrating because it is very convenient to access on my pixel 7 pro via the toggle in the notification pull down, but it simply will not stay connected. My internet is strong and both devices stay connected, so that isn't the issue. I've tried pairing and unpairing it multiple times and that doesn't fix it. Issue persists after restarting both devices.

Hi stankyyboiii,

 

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. The virtual remote is a function in the app that lets it communicate with the Chromecast device via WLAN. Try to turn off the mobile/cellular data on your phone to ensure that it stays on Wi-Fi. You can also isolate it by using a mobile hotspot.

 

About your Chromecast Voice remote, what steps have you taken? Did you factory reset your Chromecast Voice remote? If you already did, try this workaround.

 

  • Remove the batteries and give it a 2 to 3 minute rest.
  • While the batteries are out, press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to fully drain any static power left on the chipset/motherboard of the Chromecast Voice remote, then release the button.
  • Let the remote rest again for 2 to 3 minutes. Take this time to unplug the Chromecast device from power and give it a 1 minute rest before you plug it back in.
  • Proceed with the pairing process.

I factory reset the remote and followed all the steps, but no luck. The d-pad buttons are the only ones that don't work, minus the left one. Everything else still works, but without the d-pad it's not very useful
