Happy to see Pluto TV added to the Live tab! Will other apps/services be added?

This is great news! 👍

It's been a long time since Google TV users first started reporting issues with the Live Channels app. And when it appeared that the Live Channels app was no longer being supported, one hope and suggestion was to add these channels to the Live tab.

Now we all have access to Pluto TV channels in the Live Tab.

Will we see channels from other apps/services added to the Live Tab? Such as Peacock, XUMO, and Paramount+ (to name just a few). It seems most streaming apps now offer some live channels. Paramount+ and Pluto TV are both owned and operated by ViacomCBS, so I imagine Paramount+ support for the Live tab might not be too far behind?

One thing I wish the Live tab had was category browsing. While it's cool to see search/browse results include Pluto TV live content, browsing the Live tab isn't as easy as just browsing inside the Pluto TV app, which allows you to browse live content by Movies, News, etc. This is a feature in the Google Live Channels app, but not the Live tab...

I apologize about the late response on this, thank you for your patience! I think those suggestions you have about the Live tab are great, and Google is always looking for feedback about their devices. If you have the time, would you be able to submit feedback via Google TV to let Google know about your idea? While they won't respond back to you directly, Google takes all forms of submitted feedback seriously.

Hi Jeran,

Actually, I had reported an issue about this. The Live tab for me has disappeared. Although it's not a huge loss now since there aren't other services available yet (only Pluto TV for non-YouTubeTV subscribers). And using the Pluto TV app is better, because it you can browse categories.

I'm currently still use the abandoned Live Channels app because I can at least add a few more services/channels and can browse by category and it doesn't have to reload the Pluto TV app every time I change the channel like it did in the Live tab.

I'm sorry to hear that Pluto TV disappeared from the Live tab, thank you for reporting that issue! I found another thread on the Google TV community about this issue, if you wanted to take some time to give that short thread a look. It's good to hear that you were able to find a workaround at least! If you had any more questions or concerns, I'd be happy to address them.

Also, I just realized this is in the Nest forum... I do have some posts in the Google TV forum, but those are unanswered. Should I still to that forum for discussion about Google TV?

The Google Nest Chromecast forum is a general discussion forum for all things Chromecast, and Google TV now falls into that category with Chromecast with Google TV. We will try to answer any question we can regarding Google TV, but if you had any questions that were Google TV specific, and you had trouble finding the answer here, the Google TV community would be a bit more specialized than we would be here.

No, I'm just waiting to see what might happen with this feature 🙂 Not sure I follow the logic behind locking all of these threads for unsolved issues and unanswered questions. I saw some other threads locked.

Isn't the idea for any forum member to be able to comment on a thread for a similar topic rather than creating a new one? It's more efficient. What does locking do? Don't threads usually get locked only when they are off the rails? If the thread becomes inactive, it simply falls down the list of active topics, but can still be searched and commented on. You lock a thread when you want to silence it, right? Versus saying, "If you aren't going to keep commenting every day, we're going to lock this thread." That's what I don't understand. 

So instead for context in the future, I have to create a new thread and then search for relevant threads to link to that others can't comment on.

Example: I mention an issue in a thread. It is unsolved. I have reported it via "send feedback" and it is out in the ether. Other have the same issue. They can chime in and say, "I'm experiencing this as well." One day maybe it is fixed? It would also be nice to be able to comment on that same thread to say, "This is fixed!" or "I found a solution, this is what I did..."

I totally understand where you are coming from! We lock threads that no longer have any traffic or interactions happening on them. If they'd like us to keep this one open for a week longer, then we are happy to do that, and that's why I follow up on threads to see if folks are still interested in keeping up the discussion. The general rule of thumb for us is to keep threads open for a week if we haven't heard anything from the poster, then we lock it for the hygiene of the community.
