I have a 200ms audio delay when an app is using Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital + surround sound

As I said in the subject, I have a fixed 200ms audio delay when an app uses Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital + surround sound. I first noticed it in the Netflix app. I have a Samsung TV and a Samsung q800a soundbar which is connected to the TV via an ARC HDMI port. Supported audio is setup to be bitstreamed.

I have never had this delay before, only noticed it with my new Chromecast with Google TV. The delay isn't noticeable in content with Dolby Atmos. Atmos itself works correctly, and the soundbar successfully recognizes it. The delay is gone when I turn off Dolby Digital and DD+ from the Chromecast sound settings.

I would appreciate any ideas you may have, because currently I have to choose between stereo, or delayed audio.

I have the same problem also. Hdmi arc connection to a philips 65PUS6753 TV. With surround sound enabled there is a 200-300ms delay on the audio.

Hey there Dorky,

I saw you posted in a similar thread, and I thank you for being patient! This will be the same post I made for the other thread, but if you are able to do so, we would like to be able to isolate the issue further by having you connect to another soundbar using the same HDMI eARC connection. If the same issue occurs on this second soundbar, would you be able to submit feedback via the Google Home app with logs enabled? That way, our engineering team can investigate further. If you would like, we could also look at replacing your device if you believe it is defective, you would just need to either fill out this form, or get a hold of Chromecast support.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

Sorry but the issue is still there. I have tried 2 different soundbars now and get the same result. Just to be clear I believe I am using ARC not eARC but as I am only using ac3 and eac3 and NOT Dolby Atmos etc then ARC should be fine? I am happy to provide the feedback logs. Please can you advise where I enable them in the home app then I will send the logs? Also I assume you want me to playback some video with surround before I send the feedback logs?

Thanks

Ady

Hi Jaren,

I have now sent the feedback with logs.

Thanks

Hey there Ady1,

Thank you for submitting feedback! Every device log that the engineering team gets helps them figure out where the issue lies. While we don't have a fix for this issue at the moment, rest assured the engineering team is looking into this.

In the meantime, did you have any other questions or concerns we can address today?

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran,

It would be great to finally get a fix for this. Maybe a slider to manually change the audio video sync? Other than that I really like this device!

Thanks

Adrian

Hi guys! I managed to fix the issue by connecting the Chromecast directly to the soundbar, and then using the 4k passthrough so I can send the video data to the TV. Would really appreciate an official solution though...

Edit: my soundbar is Samsung Q800A. My configuration is: Chromecast with Google TV > Samsung Q800A > Samsung TV UE55NU7472.

Hey Dorky thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately my soundbar only has 1 hdmi port so I it can't passthrough video.
