I assume that this new device you want to setup is a Google Chromecast with Google TV also.
Is the new Google Chromecast with Google TV device running on the newest operating system update?
Is the kid profile already created as a family member under your own profile? If so, the kid profile should already be available to select on switch profile menu.
Is the kid profile currently connected on on other Google Chromecast with Google TV? If so, exit from his profile on that device/devices, then try again on the new device.
