Hi @TheStick - Here is how to find it:

Locate the MAC address on Chromecast
  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings. Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check your MAC address.

can you do this before you connect to wifi during setup ?

I think you might need to do the wifi setup, but when it fails, you should still get the mac address info directly through google home.

I found Chromecast MAC address accidentally on my ipad when i switched off wireless and restarted a wireless scan. Chromecast popped up as an available network. When I clicked on the available network I could not access it as a password was requested but the MAC address was there!  I entered the MAC address into my router list however, it did not solve my problem of not connecting to wireless- apparently Chromecast does not work with WPA-2 security??

Is this correct or is there a workaround?

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, MrVacca.

TheStick, what type of Chromecast device do you have? If you have a regular Chromecast device, you may get the Mac address during the initial set up. Here's how: from the Connect to Wi-Fi screen, at the top right, tap the 3 dots > Tap Show MAC address.

On the other hand, if you have a Chromecast with Google TV, you will not be able to locate the MAC address during the initial setup. Please set up your Chromecast with Google TV using a different Wi-Fi network or hotspot. Afterwards, follow the steps below to locate the MAC address:

  1. From the Google TV home page, go to Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select About.
  4. Select Status.
  5. On the right side, you should find the MAC address.

hd1200xlh, the Chromecast devices supports WPA2 wireless security. See the info here. Also, could you tell us more about your concern? Are you getting any messages when setting up your Chromecast? What type of Chromecast device do you have?

Regards,

Jennifer
