Netflix not working in 4K

I’ve got the Chromecast 4k and a Samsung 4k TV with HDCP 2.2. The Netflix app on the TV shows content in 4K, but the Chromecast only shows content in HD. Netflix say this is nothing to do with them. Can anyone here help?

Also check the HDMI port you've actually connected to HDCP2.2. Many TVs have multiple HDMI ports and not all support all technologies.
Note: I don't work here.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the help here, Waynesmoot834 and thedriver.

HarviMalhi, have you had the chance to try the suggested troubleshooting steps here? Let us know how it goes. I wanted to make sure that we’d be able to isolate and fix this.

I used to be able to choose resolution on my chromecast 4k under settings. If you manage to change settings there I think the netflix app will show the 4k-stuff.
In my case I used to be able to show a better resolution (3k monitor), but since a few weeks I cannot choose a better resolution than 1080p60hz. I suspect google did some downgrade of my software.

Hi folks,

@HarviMalhi, I just want to check if you still need help.

@MC77, are you also experiencing the issue of not getting 4K for Netflix? I’ve already replied to your post on this thread.

We look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi Mimy,

That issue was resolved thanks. However, now I’m waiting for a response as to why Disney Plus does not stream in 4K…

Hi HarviMalhi,

Thanks for the reply. I just want to clarify that the original issue was that all apps were working fine, including Disney+ playing 4K content, except for Netflix. Now the issue with Netflix has been resolved, but for some reason, Disney+ is acting up. Try to clear the cache and reinstall the app. You can also perform a sequential reboot on all involved devices (TV, Chromecast, router, etc.). Let us know how it goes.

Kimy

Hi!
Correct - I cannot get 4K content in any app (except youtube). All other apps (netflix, disney & hbo in my case) seem to be limited by the general settings of the device. Since the option to choose better resolution than 1080p 60 hz disappeared recently on my 4k-device I can no longer access the better quality content on all apps but youtube.

Hi MC77,

Appreciate your reply here. What is the brand and model of this 4K TV that you’re using? Kindly share a photo of the TV showing the brand and model. It will help us review further.

Thanks,

Kimy

I've experienced a similar issue with my Chromecast 4K and Samsung 4K TV. It's frustrating that Netflix content on the TV displays in 4K, but the Chromecast only manages HD. Even after reaching out to Netflix, they claim it's not their problem. Any advice or solutions, Loklok?

Hi Ronaldtaylo,

Thanks for posting. Have you tried any of the troubleshooting steps above? If all other installed apps are playing 4K content, then this is indeed isolated to the Netflix app. Clearing and reinstalling the app mostly helps. TV settings are also crucial for display output. Let us know the steps that you’ve taken. We look forward to your response.

I have similar issues.  My Chromecast used to work fine broadcasting in 4k from Amazon Prime, Paramount+, etc.

I haven't changed my television (LG 4k TV) and I haven't changed HDMI ports.  Basically I haven't changed anything.  4k just stopped working even when the content says 4k.

Hi MegaDecaByte,

Thanks for posting here. If there’s no physical change made, let’s identify if this has something to do with the network. Try to disconnect your Chromecast device from your Wi-Fi and connect it to your phone’s mobile hotspot. Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Kimy
