Network not found when setting up chromecast

I am trying to reinstall chromecast on my tv, I use my iPhone as a hotspot, I go through the steps and it gets to the select a network to connect to, my network does not appear but around half a dozen networks appear from across the road, next door randomly others, can’t work out why my network does not appear

Is the network being made by the same phone you are using to do the setup?  If so, that may be the problem.

That's not a supported configuration.  But, some people have reported that it works fine.

There is a trick... most phones can't BE the WiFi network and act like they are ON the network at the same time.

So, you will probably need another device


Turn on the WiFi hotspot on your phone to make a new network (note: this HAS to have full internet access)
Connect your other device to your phone hotspot
Use the other device to setup your Chromecast to use the phone hotspot
Use the other device to cast to your Chromecast

A couple more warnings... as I said, your hotspot has to have internet access. Chromecasts require this even when you are casting local content. Be warned that Chromecasts can use a LOT of data quickly. Because of this, speed of connection is important. Even if you have "unlimited data", some providers throttle phone data speeds when you do a lot of data. This will impact the quality of your casting or cause a lot of stutters.

tried your recommendation as still did not work, it  worked a week ago, for some reason when I go through the steps of setting up chromecast and get to the step of connecting to my network, my network is not showing up on my iPhone to select, at a loss why this has happened all of a sudden.

Panther,

Did you use a second device to do the setup?  Or, are you still trying to make the hotspot and do the setup using the same device?

If you are still using one device, it's probable that Apple did some kind of update that broke that.   It has happened in the past.
