New Chromecast with Google TV 4K; Remote doesn't locate external devices

I have several 2 year old Chromecast with Google TV 4K units that have worked great.  I purchased 3 new units recently.  When setting up the old remote to control my TV, Settings>Remote and Accessories>pair>ok, it displays my LG (OLED) tv and allows me to select the LG TV to Power on/off, Volume, and input.  Works great. When I plug into my old TV (Sony) without blue tooth, it displays TV manufacturers to make a selection. Again works great.

The new unit(s) on the same TV (tried all 3), going through the setup (Settings>Remote and Accessories>pair>ok goes to a  screen to select TV, Receiver, etc, I select TV and it rotates back to the Pair screen .  It doesn't display the TV to select power, volume, nor input.  I can select 'chromecast' and it will control the volume, but selecting 'chromecast' or Auto (CEC) will not control the other TV functions.  I reset both the old and new units. Both say they are up to date.  The old unit worked perfectly; the new units (3) still would not find the tv nor display various TV manufactures that i can select.  Please advise.  Is this a problem with the new units?  I don't know the 'Generation' of the old or the new but they the same with the egg shaped dongle powered by 110V plug that came with the units.

Hello @Kamamy,

I definitely understand your concern about your Chromecast not working properly for your new units.

It definitely sounds like you've encountered a frustrating issue with your new Chromecast with Google TV 4K units not being able to locate and control your TV. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Check for software updates:

  • Double-check that both your Chromecast and your TV have the latest software updates installed. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

2. Re-pair the remote:

  • Even though you've reset the units, try re-pairing the remote to your TV. The process might differ slightly depending on your TV model, but it usually involves going to the remote settings on your Chromecast and following the on-screen pairing instructions.

3. Try the CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) option:

  • While the Chromecast automatically attempts to use CEC for control, you can try forcing it. Navigate to Settings > Remote and accessories and ensure CEC is enabled (it might be labeled differently depending on your TV).

4. Use your phone as a remote:

  • As a temporary solution, you can try using your phone as a remote control for your Chromecast. Download the Google Home app and follow the instructions to pair your phone with the Chromecast.

5. Consider a different connection method (if applicable):

  • If your TV supports both HDMI and optical audio connections, try switching between them to see if it makes a difference.

Helio

Thanks for the assistance. I was able to connect to the LG TVS.  However was not able to connect to the new Samsung TVs nor an old Sony. Again, this is for controlling on/off, volume, input with the ChromeCast remote.  When pairing, the remote finds the Samsung, but pairing fails. On the 5 year old Sony, remote can’t find (expected), but no option to select tv type.

Hello, and thank you for replying back. I am glad that your LG TVs work out, and my apologies about your Sony and your new Samsung being unable to connect.  I will probably say that since your Sony TV is older, it might not be compatible with the advanced features used by the Chromecast remote. Perhaps you can contact your manufacturing company, and they can probably help you with some more tips.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.

Hi there, I think you are having a bug! This is not an issue of pairing the remote with the Chromecast. The remote is working fine. The only problem is that we can't configure which IR codes must it send to the TV or Receiver. The list of TV brands/Receivers is not being presented to us to select which IR codes will the remote use as described by @Kamamy. Is there a reason for it? When this list of brands should appear? According to the tutorials, any time we want to change the IR behavior.
None of the offered options seems to work.
My Chromecast 4K with Google TV is brand new, fully updated to the last version, even the remote control is updated to the last version.
I have tried with CEC enabled (and this allows the chromecast to act on the TV through the HDMI connection) but no TVs/Receivers listed.
I have tried without CEC enabled on my TV. Again, no list of brands to choose from.
I have tried configuring the buttons options not to use CEC but Chromecast. Same result.
We don't want to use another remote, this is why we are trying to get this to work.
Thanks

Mauricioc, thks for your comments.  When I initially set up my google remote several years ago, it was simple and worked by selecting the brand TV / Receiver for on/off and volume. It doesn’t do that today. TVs that were operating with the remote can’t be set up with new ChromeCast nor with the older one which I updated to latest software.  When ‘+ Pair Remote or accessory’ is selected, nothing happens. No TV, no receiver, nothing listed. I spent a significant amount of time with the presented options which are only ‘ChromeCast’ or ‘Auto (CEC)’. It may or may not work; one TV selecting ChromeCast it will turn on but not off.  I hope someone can assist with this continuing problem.

@Kamamy In another thread in spanish someone came up with a solution.

You have to revert to factory setting your chromecast and start all over again.
I tested it with my two new devices and it has worked properly.

With the Chromecast pluged to the tv and powered,  press the device button (besides the white led)and keep it pressed. You’ll see the red/yellow led blinking for at least 15 second until it turns to white again. Release it. Your chromecast will restart and you will have to configure it again using Goolge Home app. During the setup it will detect your tv through hdmi or ask you to configure it selecting the brand, etc. (you can skip this step to do it later).

Let me know if you solve it with this workaround.
Good luck.

They are having more than one issue in this process. Note that if you quickly select the Add device and then TV (almost like a double click speed), the whole configuration activity closes. This may be seen by developers like a crash. Maybe we all need to try this many many times to get their attention into it.
