I keep getting no sound on my Chromecast with Google TV. I have to keep restarting it to get sound back working. Sound works on tv as I use it daily but as soon as I switch to Chromecast then the sound goes and I have to reboot Chromecast again. Is there a fix for this? It was working fine for over a year but only recently it's been happening. Tv is the same so no new hardware.

Hey folks,
Good news! Last week, we started rolling out an update for Chromecast with Google TV that should mitigate this behavior. Kindly observe your devices from time to time and give us a shout if you continue to experience it.
We appreciate everyone’s patience.
Best,
Kimy

After installing Chromecast and enabling my Visio Soundbar my TV audio no longer works, even if I am trying to access Cable. When I attempt to override and switch to TV's internal audio the option is not available as an option. (This is the setting on my tv) If I restart the TV I DO have the option to switch to internal audio, but every time I turn the tv on again I get no sound and my sound bar does not play anything. This is a Sony Bravia 55X850B. It does not have Bluetooth, which seems to be affecting Google Home - Google Home does not see the Chromecast device. I had an old 1st Gen Chromecast that worked and tried to reinstall that but again, Google home does not see it. So... 1) this Chromecast install has broken audio on my TV. 2) I can't figure out how to uninstall this thing and get my tv back to some sense of normalcy. Any ideas?

Eureka!! Ok, after the update about a week ago I had another crack at 5.1 and guess what it works! (nearly).
So the situation is It still doesn't work on Auto, but if you select any format individually (i.e. Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus or DTS) they all work, (I don't have Atmos.
It is ridiculous that it has taken this long for a massive company like Google to get it's act together this far, let's hope they can get the Tech kids to get the whole thing working properly.
And at the end of the day it begs the question, why only 5.1? I have had a 7.1 surround system for well over ten years, wtf?

Hi@Adamsm86,
I faced the same issue with my Chromecast with Google TV. To solve the problem, I performed a factory reset on the Chromecast. After the reset, I set it up again and resolved the sound issue. It seems that the problem was likely caused by some software glitch, and the factory reset did the trick. Since then, I haven't encountered any sound problems on my Chromecast with Google TV.

Reporting on 6th August that we're having this issue again. It keeps happening every few months, for days I have issues with the sound randomly going and it taking multiple restarts for it to start working again.

Same problem, no sound at all restart not fixing it. Getting frustrated with Google products built in unreliability. I want their gear to work but I am questioning my will...
