Voice remote stops working and won’t update

I have a voice remote for my Chromecast with UtubeTV that keeps failing. I can either reset or “forget” and re-connect and it will work again for a few days. I noticed that this remote won’t update past Firmware version 22.2 while other remotes update without issue to 26.2. When I manually try to update, it says it’s successful but the version remains at 22.2. 

When the remote begins to fail, it starts off with having to hit the navigation (on the round disc) buttons twice to have one command recognize. Then that stop working after about an hour. 

I’ve reset it countless times and re-paired just as many. That always fixes it…but not for long.  New batteries doesn’t fix the problem either. 

any ideas?

Hey there kffolts,

This problem sounds pretty frustrating to deal with, so I'd be happy to help you get it figured out. You mentioned that the remote keeps failing to update. Is your Chromecast with Google TV up-to-date on its firmware? If so, what state is the LED light in when the voice remote disconnects? If the remote is throwing an error, it would appear here via the LED light.

 My Chromecast with google TV firmware is:  

Android TV Version 12

Android TV OS security patch level: October 2022

Kernel Version 4.9.269, #1 Tue Sep 20 02:04:58 UTC 2022

Android TV OS Build: STTE.220920.016H1.9408258

When the remote disconnects...the LED is in consistent but I do notice it flashes blue (like it's ready to or is pairing) but that doesn't always happen.  Most times it doesn't flash at all.

That is an odd situation. In this case, it may be best to speak with Chromecast Support regarding your Voice Remote. If you don't mind, would you fill out this form to have them reach out to you via email? Afterwards, please let me know when you finish filling out that form.
