Voice search on Netflix app on Chromecast with Google TV

Does voice search work when you're inside Netflix app and want to search for titles only on the Netflix?

When I open Netflix app on "Chromecast with Google TV", and want to search for a title by pressing the assistant button on my remote, for example, "search for great British baking show", I get the results on the Google TV home screen instead of just the Netflix app.

Has this got something to do with what Netflix allows inside it's app and how it interacts with voice search requests?

Hi asrith31,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. The Google Assistant is a feature of the Chromecast device itself, which is why it shows the result on the home screen. You can be specific with your command by mentioning the title/content and/or the source app. Most of the linked apps (in Google Home App like Netflix, YouTube, etc.) may recognize the title/content and open it right away, even if you didn’t include the source app. It may not work on all apps, though.

Examples of commands that you can try:

  • “Play Stranger Things", since it's recognized as a Netflix show, it will launch the app right away.
  • “Play The Pacific”, since it is recognized as content from more than one app (HBO Max, Netflix, HBO Go, etc.), these are the scenarios in which it’s best to mention the source app.
  • “Play House on Netflix”, since you mentioned Netflix, it will force the search within that app. It will then display a title/content related to it since it’s not specific.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you still have questions.

Thanks,

Kimy
