need to re-start chromecast with google tv frequently

I like many things about CC with GTV but I am frustrated by the number of resets required. It will very often not re-connect to wi-fi when starting to stream until the device is reset.

The device is within 50cm of the Wi-Fi access point in the room and reports an excellent signal.

All the software appears to be up to date.

I use the supplied PSU and have also tried more powerful supplies.

Is there a fix for this or do I need to find an alternative streamer?

Hello mac51,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear about that. Let's sort this out.

A few questions: what type of Chromecast with Google TV device do you have, is it the 4K or the HD? Are there any recent changes in your Wi-Fi network? Which frequency is your Chromecast with Google TV connected to, is it in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz? Please reboot your Wi-Fi network and plug it in on a different HDMI port on your TV. If it's connected to the 2.4 GHz network, connect it to the 5 GHz network.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi, Jennifer, and thank you for helping to resolve this issue.

I have a 4K Chromecast with Google TV which is connected to the TV through a Denon AV receiver.

It has always struggled to connect to Wi-Fi on switching the system on. Occasionally it remains connected (or connects quickly?), however often it requires re-setting to get a Wi-Fi connection.

The last change to the network was a change to ISP, with a new router, about 12 months ago. Prior to that I changed from a Netgear wireless access point next to the Chromecast and used the Sky Q TV box hotspot function to provide the link to the router. I believe that he Sky box is limited to 2.4GHz for the hotspot function therefore I cannot at the moment switch the Chromecast to 5GHz. I don't remember either of these changes causing the problem.

I can re-instate the Netgear access point and try to connect the Chromecast on 5GHz although I have not found a way of checking which band the Chromecast is using.

Thanks.

Hello mac51,

Got it. Yes, you may try to connect it to your Netgear Access point to test. You can also try to set up and connect the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) to a mobile hotspot so we can isolate the issue.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I have set up the Net Gear access point and connected the Chromecast. So far it has connected to the internet quickly each time it has been switched so I am cautiously hopeful it might fix the problem (although as it was an intermittent issue it may recur). I still don't understand why it didn't connect reliably with an equally strong 2.4GHz signal though!

Thanks for your help and I suggest you close this thread now.
