This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. A few things: which Chromecast device? What is the make and model of the phone that you are using for your Google Home app? Do you have the latest version of the Google Home app installed on your phone?
You can try to uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app then observe if this will make a difference. To further isolate the issue, use another phone and observe if its working.
