Alerts or notifications if thermostat goes offline

Hello - Is there a way to get an alert or notification pushed to my phone when or if my Nest thermostat goes offline?

We have a Nest thermostat in a vacation property that we own. The thermostat has been offline for 4 days and we were not aware. We discovered this only because we were traveling there and opened the app to turn the heat up prior to arrival. Had we not been going to this property this weekend and opened the app, we wouldn’t have known the thermostat was out of service. This is troubling in the winter when cold temperatures can cause frozen pipes, etc. In some ways this defeats the purpose of having this particular smart thermostat. We chose it so we could have peace of mind while we are away.

Hi SuperduperMario,

Thanks for checking it with us. Let me take a closer look at it. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Also, in what country are you located?

Best,

Jenelyn

Jenelyn,  I have a Nest Thermostat E and have the same question and the same circumstances.

The lack of alert/notifcation from the NEST thermostat, if it goes offline is a HUGE miss from a product design standpoint.  If my thermostat goes offline I want to know immediately.  Depending on outdoor temps there could be great risk to loved ones, pets, and or property not knowing the device is no longer functioning. The fact that I have to open the AP to investigate whether this device is online is ridiculous and especially given the app tells you how long ago the device went offline( so the system is recording when it went offline just not pushing a notification?). I get tons of spam notifications from my google cameras all day about someone being spotted when there is nobody (despite setting zones and sensitivity).  I’m really shocked this can’t be updated.  I have the NEST gen 3 learning thermostats.
