Android - Google home app - can't connect to Nest hub v2 (connecting - > not available)

Hi there,

I have a nest hub v2 and since the beginning was able to install and configure it using the normal process. Once the installation is finished I am not able to connect towards the device through Google home. It states connecting and then jumps to not available.

I can change some settings by pressing the cog.

On another phone I can't connect to it either to sync the voice match and other services.

  • I am on the same WiFi (attempted different WiFi networks).
  • The devices are on the same vlan. I can ping the nest hub.
  • I tried factory reset of the hub
  • I tried the airplane - > WiFi, location and Bluetooth on only.
  • Tried reboot of my APs, router etc.
  • Tried only broadcasting on 2.4ghz band
  • Tried turning off all security features on firewall/router
  • Don't see blocked communication on both APs (Aruba AP315 and router (unify dream machine)
  • The hub is 3m away from one of my APs
  • Tried with two different android phones.
  • WiFi signal is great and not much interference on used channel.

None worked. Starting to be annoying. All other home automation devices work even on different VLANs and/or WiFi ssids I have.

Really looking like it's the nest hub or Google home app

Please assist.

Kind regards,

G

I managed to solve it but not with one of the normal routes.

  1. Have two android phones ready
  2. Factory reset the Nest hub
  3. Turn off your own WiFi network
  4. Create a wifi hotspot with the same SSID and password as your normal WiFi network with Phone1
  5. Connect towards the WiFi hotspot with Phone2
  6. Install the Nest Hub using Phone2
  7. Optional: Configure voice match and other services for another account with a different phone (for example set up hotspot on Phone2 and configure Nest hub with Phone1)
  8. Turn off Hotspot from the phone
  9. Turn on your own WiFi again
  10. Voila..

Weirdly enough after that I can connect towards it through the usual WiFi network. There is no Mac address check etc so this just works and doesn't require MAC spoofing or something of the sort.

Hope this helps as a solution for people that had/have issues like I do (see first post).

Best regards,

G

I’m done troubleshooting it.  I just asked for a refund.  Seems they don’t care
