Assistant/Home no longer have fan speed controls

Something changed recently where I can no longer control my GE Smart Fan switches speed. There used to be a slider in the app where you could select 0-100% but now it only shows On/Off. Same with Google Assistant, it no longer knows what to do when asking it to set brightness for my fans. My devices are SmartThings and the controls within their app are correct and working as expected. I've tried in both the regular app and preview but neither of them have the slider.

Sadly, there was no communication of this change which is obviously on Google's side.

Hello Logix,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for this experience.

Please answer the following: when did the issue start? What's the Google Home app version that you're using? What is your phone model?

If you haven't already, uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app. You may also remove and re-add your GE Smart Fan to see if that fixes your issue. Check out this link for more information.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Lovely

Hi Lovely,

It started a couple of weeks ago. I spoke to my Nest Hub (latest one) to "Set brightness of Master Fan to 50%" and it responded that it doesn't know how to do that. It's always done it in the past and I've had then since the first version. So, I looked at the Home app and all my fans are listed the Fan (switch) and in details it only has off/on and the dimmer is gone. I was using the preview version of the Home app so I uninstalled it and installed version 3.2.1.7 from Google Play to no avail. In the Smartthings app everything is as it should be and now I'm relegated to using their horrible app to control my fans. My phone is a Pixel 6 Pro running Android 13 build TQ2A.230505.002. Unless you can tell me that removing Smartthings from the home app will definitely resolve this I'd rather make that a last resort since I have many automations set up which would take time to catalog and reinstate.

Let me know if you have anything else for me.

Regards,

Logix

Hey Logix,

Great! Since this feedback has already been filed, our product team should be able to review it soon. We cannot provide a timeline on when this feature will be available again, so please keep an eye out for updates. I also suggest joining the Public Preview for Google Home app and sending feedback there about this issue.

Let us know if you have additional questions or concerns; otherwise, I'll close the thread after 24 hours.

Thanks,
Lovely
