Few days ago I noticed my news sources have changed when I ask for news. I checked my settings and the news sources I have selected all is the same as before. What is happening?

Today both ac units which are connected through smart life app can NOT be controlled in Google home anymore. The settings are greyed out.

Anyone have any idea 💡

Hi @Replay

The news sources issue has been reported by others here in the Community and has been escalated over to support. Still waiting for a response back on that and you can follow that here:.  Re: News preferences being ignored - Google Nest Community

For your AC, try unlinking and relinking that smart life service again. See if that helps.

Hey folks,

JillG, thanks for the help!

@Replay, we got an update from our team that playing news from incorrect news sources is already resolved. Kindly let us know if you're still experiencing the same issue. For your AC, did relinking your Smart Life account work?

Best,

Alex

Hi Azarco,

The news feed issue is resolved and back to normal.
As for the AC it is still not functioning as before. I have tried everything from reinstalling apps, unlinking and relinking. it is for two thermostats. The only control I have from Google home is power on/off. It will not change or set temperature anymore. The graphics used to be in blue on white and now it is grey on white.
I am attaching screenshots from before and now.

Hey Replay,

Thanks for the picture. Is it also happening when you're controlling it using voice commands? Have you tried rebooting your devices and router to refresh the connection?

Alex

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the follow up. The only thing that works now is the ON/OFF by voice on the phone or using the nest mini. The AC display on  The home app on the phone can not be used at all as it is greyed out. I have restarted my phone, routers and the nests mini. Still the same. I am using the smart life app to change the temperature.

Since it has happened to two thermostats in my place at the same time I wonder if it is related to a recent update maybe?

Hey Replay,

Could you try if these commands work?

  • "Make it [warmer] or [cooler]"
  • "[Raise] or [Lower] temp two degrees"
  • "Set the temperature to 72"

Try renaming your Thermostat using a unique name that's only for your Thermostat and let's see if that will do the trick.

Thanks,

Alex

Hi Alex,

1. Changing the name did not help.

2. Make it warmer/cooler works ðŸ˜Š, but the change in temperature is random.

3. Raise/lower by X degrees works but the change is not by X, it is a random amount of degrees every time.

4. "Set the temperature to X" does not work, Google voice feedback is "Bedroom AC can not be set to that temperature."

All changes occur while the graphics for the ac on Home app is greyed out. no change.

Thanks.

Hey Replay,

Thanks for checking those suggested commands. By the way, what's the brand of your thermostat? If possible, could you try removing your thermostat from your Smart Life app? Once done, reset your Google Home and add your thermostat back.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Alex,

The two thermostats are generic and not branded.

I tried your suggestion and also tried :
1. unlink all 3rd party apps from "Google home app".
2. Delete "my home" on the "smart home app" and on the "Google home app". and deleted the apps afterward.
3. Reboot my smartphone (Samsung S20+) and all routers at home.
4. Reset all Google nest mini I have at home.
5. Create a new account and home on "Smart home app" and a new home on "Google home app".
6. Add only the thermostat on the "Smart home app".
7. Reinstalled "Google home" app on my phone.
8. Link the new "Smart home app" account to "Google home app".
Tried to control the thermostat on the "Google home app" and it was greyed out same like before.

Things to consider,
1. This issue started on both thermostats at the same time, so no malfunction in hardware.
2. The control is still the same on the "Smart home app", so that server is fine.
3. I tried to link both thermostats to "Alexa" app on my smartphone and it worked flawlessly manually and by voice control.
4. I am out of ideas to try troubleshooting. ðŸ™„
