When I get back from the gym I usually ask Google to turn on the lights in the kitchen. For the past 2 weeks, I have said, "Hey Google, turn on the kitchen lights". The response is *lights turn on*, "Okay, turning on two lights". Then a second later saying "Okay, turning on 5 lights", which blasts my bedroom lights on waking up my wife. Why does it randomly hear an ask to turn on all the lights in my apartment? All I asked for was the 2 kitchen lights. There has not been a morning in the past 2 weeks that this has not happened. And it only happens in the morning when I come back home and my wife is still sleeping.

Hey zjshafer,
Thanks for reaching out. I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should, let’s get this sorted out.
A few questions: were there any recent changes to your network or set up? Also, what's the brand of your lights?
Give these steps a try:
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Alex

Hey zjshafer,
Thanks for the update.
If you'll get the same result after those steps, try resetting your Google Home to its default settings to refresh the connection.
We'll be waiting for your update.
Best,
Alex

It happened again this morning after the initially suggested solutions. I will be resetting the device to default settings and will respond back if that has worked.

Again this morning. After all of your suggestions, it still happens. Without fail. It happens with my wife's voice as well.

Hey zjshafer,
Thanks for doing those steps. Could you try renaming your lights to see if it makes a difference?
Best,
Alex

Unfortunately not.

Hey zjshafer,
Yikes! To confirm, the Philips Hue bulb that you have is it the one with the bridge or the Philips Hue Bluetooth-enabled lights?
Thanks,
Alex

4 are bluetooth (2 in kitchen - which I want to turn on- and 2 in the bedroom) and 1 is an outdoor powerstrip connected to string lights. The kitchen lights turn on when asked for them. Then it responds without delay again but for all lights, including the bluetooth power strip

Hi zjshafer,
Thanks for the additional information. Could you please try these steps:
Hope these steps help.

I have done all of those in the past, but I can try again.
When I use the Philips Hue and Smart Life apps, the devices work great and come on when scheduled. It seems that it's software in the Google Home display. Maybe something with the mics, thinking that I am asking twice. I will turn off the continued conversation and see if it works.
It also seems to do with the time of day. It only happens before 7am.

Hi zjshafer,
We appreciate your time. Additional steps: try removing your Philips Hue light on the Philips Hue app and directly set it up on the Google Home app.
We'll be waiting for your update.
Thanks,
Alex

Hey zjshafer,
How's it going with your Philips Hue lights? Have you had the chance to set it up using your Google Home app?
Kind regards,
Alex

Sorry, I've had a busy weekend. When I set them up it has me log into the Philips Hue app to complete the process with the bluetooth lights. I haven't asked the lights to turn on before 8 o'clock so I don't know if this has fixed it

Today was bad. Set up as you said, but here is the "conversation" I had with my Google home:
Me: "Hey Google, turn off the kitchen lights."
Google: "Okay, turning off 2 lights."
*2-second pause*
"Okay, turning on light 2." (a single kitchen light turns on)
*2-second pause*
"Okay, turning on light 2." (light is already on)
Does it hear itself and think it's me? When it says "turning off 2 lights", does it hear "on" and "light 2"? Maybe I'll change the voice of the assistant to see if that helps at all.

Hey zjshafer,
Have you tried disabling the continued conversation on your Google Home app? Also, try renaming your lights to a more unique name.
Thanks,
Alex

I'll try turning off continued conversation, although I use that quite often. And I'm not sure what else to name them. Kitchen light 1 and kitchen light 2 are the most unique and easy for us to remember. They are two bulbs in a single fixture.

Hey zjshafer,
Understood. You can use your names or the name of your pets for it to be different from the name of your speakers as well. There's a chance that because of the continued conversation, it's responding to itself.
Thanks,
Alex

The issue usually only happens when I come back from the gym which would be tomorrow morning. So far there have been no issues after removing the continued conversation. I believe that my voice is very similar to the assistant voice that I like. Is there not code written to help the assistant recognize that it is hearing what it is saying? It shouldn't be able to recognize itself.
