Automation Issue Recognizing Playlist

Starturtle71
Community Member

So I am trying to setup an automation to play music as an alarm at a certain time. I can get everything to work but the Apple Music playlist is not being recognized. I had named the playlist AM Alarm but it plays some random song titled that. I have changed the playlist name several times to try and get it to work but it never matches and plays some random music close to the playlist name. However, if I say, Hey Google, play my AM Alarm playlist on Apple Music, it plays perfectly fine. If I put a specific album or band, it works fine. I tried setting it up in the Home App and using the script editor on the web but it just will not recognize any playlists. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi Starturtle71,

Thanks for reaching out to our community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your automation and that your Apple Music playlist isn't being recognized. I understand how concerning it is when a command works perfectly when you say it, but not in an automation. I appreciate the troubleshooting efforts you have tried, like changing the playlist name and setting it up in both the Home app and the script editor. Don’t worry, help is here.

To get started, please provide some more information by answering these questions:

  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, this Google Nest Help Center article provides helpful instructions: Update the Google Home app.
  • Is the Apple Music app on the latest version?
  • Can you send me a screenshot of the Apple Music playlist that is not being recognized and another screenshot of the automation?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Virna

The Google home app and the Apple music app are both up to date. I would send a screenshot however it does not seem that I can attach or insert them here in this reply. Is there an alternative method to show you the screenshots.

There is no camera icon to add photos. I can only reply with text or include a hyperlink.

Hi Starturtle71,

Thanks for keeping aware of this thread. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t find the ‘camera’ icon to attach the screenshot of your automation. If it is not possible to attach the screenshot, sharing a link of the picture would be useful to check what is happening with your automation settings.

I appreciate the information you previously provided, which helps me better understand what you are experiencing.

In the meantime, I recommend you check the following conditions:

  1. Make sure that the operating system on your mobile device is updated.
  2. Verify that your device’s firmware version is updated. If you’re using a Google Nest device to play your automation, you can refer to this Google Nest Help Center article to check this information: Google speaker and display firmware versions and release notes.
  3. Check if you created a Household or Personal Routine:
    1. Open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap ‘Automations.’
    3. Check which section is "Household routine" or “Personal Routines.”
  4. Check the activity view to understand when the routine ran:
    1. Open the Google Home app
    2. Tap Activity.
    3. Find “Routines started” events. The entry should include the time the routine ran, the name of the routine, and what caused the routine to start.
  5. Check if your automation is active by following these instructions:
    1. Open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap “Automations,” then select your automation.
    3. Tap “Activate,” then tap “Save.”
    4. Check if the automation works.

If the inconvenience persists, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Unlink and link the Apple Music account in the Google Home app.
  2. Set another Apple Music playlist and let me know if it works.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna
