Automation shuts down after activation

Hi there, just bought two Google nest cameras, the automation I have set shuts down a second after activation. I got restarted the router,my phone, the cameras and have reinstalled the Google nest and home app. Have checked the routines (which are very simple, just turn on/off the cameras) didn't saw any conflicts between the two apps. My Wi-fi is on,all the devices are connected. I have turned on the home/away option of the two apps. While the cameras are on(live) I am immediately notified for the passing cars and people, but still the automation is keep on falling down a second after activation. Any ideas guys, what is wrong?

Thank you!

Hi @Penev,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you've been having some issues with the automation you set up for your Nest Cameras. It sounds like the automation deactivates shortly after it's activated. I appreciate you taking the time to try some troubleshooting steps, and I'm happy to help.

Before we move forward, I need some additional information:

  • What model are your Nest Cameras? If you're not sure, you can refer to our Help Center: “Technical specs for Nest cameras and doorbells”
  • What exactly are you trying to do with the automation?
  • What apps are you using?
  • Can you show me how you have the automation set up?

Once you provide this information, I'll be more than happy to assist you.

Best regards,

Debora

Hello Debora, thank you for you assistance.

The routines I am trying to set up are very simple, just turn on/off the two Google nest cameras,in a sertain hour. I have made one routine to activate the cameras at 22pm. and another one,to stop them at 7 am. First I thought, there is a kind of conflict in the settings between Google nest and Google home app that I use,so I removed Google nest app,cos I do not really need it,can normally operate the cameras only from Google home app.

Like you saw in my post,I already have tried some steps, but didn't help. The last thing I did,was to turn off the home/away setting, cos I saw somewhere that it may confrontate the automations.

I am honestly very frustrated, have bought the two Google nest cameras more than a week ago and till now have nothing else but headache with them.

Please tell me what else to do?

I am willing to start all over again, just want to have the correct step list and to know how to avoid possible settings conflict.

Kind regards

Hi @Penev,

Thanks for providing those details. I understand this situation can be frustrating, but don't worry. I have some steps we can try. Please follow them and let me know how it goes.

  • Factory Reset Your Cameras
  • Delete the Automations
    • Next, let's refresh your automations by deleting them. Follow these steps:
      • Open the Google Home app.
      • Tap Automations, then the Menu button, and then Delete.
      • Tap Delete to confirm.
  • Rebooting your Google Home App
    • To reboot the app, you will need to delete it from your phone and then reinstall it. Be sure to remember your login credentials, including your email address and password, so you can access your account again.
  • Re-add Your Cameras and Automation
    • After you've factory reset the cameras and reinstalled the app, add your cameras back to the Google Home app and create the automation again. Once you're finished, please test it.

Let me know how it goes!

Best regards,

Hello again Debora

Meanwhile, till I receive your answer I have managed somehow to start the cameras and before i get there I met another, bigger problem.

First I would like to thank you again for the help!

Here I have to say that unfortunately I am very very disappointed and feel misled, like a client from Google!!!

After two weeks of restarting cameras, installing and uninstall apps, digging at internet for information, reading blogs and so on... finally I read an article from another customer, who had the same Google nest battery cameras,he shared that without being plugged in the power the cameras are not working.

First I didn't realize that I have that problem too,I thought that I just can not start the automations...than later, I noticed the cameras do not save the recorded events, even without a subscription must have up to 3 hours records. After I read the complain of the other customer,I have plugged the the cameras and they just started we working, like they should.

Have to ask now:

What is the point to buy BATTERY camera,if I can not use it,without to be always plugged in the power!? There is no sense!

I have lost two weeks, being busy with the problem and payed for those camera doubble the price, compared other brands...and at the end I realized that I can not even use the cameras for what I bought by them, cos they need to be wired constantly!!!

That is just horrible

Greetings
