Can't Set Up Google Mini 1st Gen after factory reset

ChairwitdaJs

I've just reset my Google Home Mini 1st Gen following instructions provided by Google. When it turns back on and tells me "Get started my downloading the Google Home app", I open the Google Home app. I press set up new device>my home> and then set up Google Home Mini. It then tries to disconnect from wifi and connect to the device remotely. The error I'm getting is "This device was previously set up by another user. Please factory reset the device". This has been a loop of doing it 7-8 times now. I tried contacting help, but they weren't able to get the issue resolved. Any ideas before I just throw this device away?

On the bottom of Home Mini, press and hold the factory reset button located below the power cable. Look for a circle etched into the base. After five seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.

After its reset, you should be able to set it up as yours.

Thank you for providing that solution. Unfortunately, it's not working. I've performed a factory reset on this device 10 times now. It is still giving me the same error when I try to set the device up.

In that case, try these alternative steps:

  1. Unplug the power cable from your speaker. Wait for 10 seconds. Plug it back in, and wait until all 4 lights on the top illuminate.
  2. Repeat step 1, 10 more times (so a total of 11 times)
  3. After you plug your speaker back in the final time, you'll need to wait a few moments for the device to reset. It will announce 'Welcome to Google Home. To get started, download the Google Home app on a phone or tablet,' to let you know that it’s ready for setup.
