Can’t play other audio on my phone while using Chromecast

I just bought the IPhone 16 Pro Max and now I can’t play any other audio on my phone while Chromecast is casting. Example: I want to watch TikTok while I am casting Hulu to my projector.

Hi @Peren10,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand you're still experiencing the issue where you can't play any other audio on your new iPhone 16 Pro Max while your Chromecast is actively casting. It's clear you're looking to multitask, like watching TikTok while casting another app to your projector.

This behavior, where your phone's audio seems to be exclusive to the casting session, is often related to how the Chromecast manages audio output during a cast. When an app initiates casting, it typically takes control of the device's audio output to ensure the cast content's sound is delivered correctly to the Chromecast.

To help me understand this behavior more thoroughly and determine the best way to address it, could you please provide some additional details?

  1. Which Chromecast model are you using? (Please visit our Help Center to learn more about Chromecast and Google TV Streamer specifications)
  2. When you are casting Hulu, is the Hulu app playing on your iPhone, or is it directly streaming from the internet to the Chromecast (i.e., you've "sent" the stream to the Chromecast and can close Hulu on your phone)?
  3. Does this behavior occur with all casting apps, or specifically with Hulu? Have you tried casting from other apps (e.g., YouTube, Netflix) and then attempting to play audio from a different app (like TikTok)?
  4. Have you checked the audio settings on your iPhone 16 Pro Max to see if there are any options related to multi-app audio playback or how it handles audio during casting sessions?
  5. Have you tried with a different phone or brand?

Your answers to these questions will help us identify the specific interaction causing this, and then we can explore potential solutions.

Regards,

Kevin
