Wemo devices in Google Home became unavailable. Tried everything like clearing caches but cannot reconnect. Get "cannot reach Wemo, try again" error.

Same here. They have been unreachable for the past month but still work when I send a voice command and then says can't reach wemo... Hey Google you just turned off the light stop lying!!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your posts. I understand the situation you're experiencing with your Wemo devices and their connection to the Google Home app. Don't worry; help is here. The best recommendation would be to try reconnecting your Wemo devices to the Google Home app. Here's how:
After that, check if the issue persists the best option would be to contact the manufacturer of your devices.
Best regards,
Jenny

Clearly the APIs are having an issue connecting services.
06-12-2025 04:41 PM
That didn't work keep getting Could not connect to WeMo please try again later

Hello, my devices are removed from the app and I disconnected wemo from Google. Now I cannot reconnect wemo to my home. Thank you, John

Your instructions all sound wonderful except for the fact that now that I disconnected WeMo from my Google Home app, Google Home won't let it re-connect - "Could not reach WeMO. Please try again. Now, I have lost ground.

No, don't delete them! My experience was, as long as my Wemo device showed in the Google Home app as Offline, I could still operate it by voice. But now that I've removed the device, I can't add it back so I've lost voice capability.

Yes!! Same here !!

That doesn't work.

This advice basically "bricked" all connection with Google and Wemo. There is an unresolved issue between Wemo and Google. By deleting the Wemo devices from Google home they are now gone and cannot be reconnected. You should post an update or remove this advice.

That does not work. Says can't connect to wemo.

Unlinking Wemo was a huge mistake because not I can’t reconnect now. Before it would tell me it didn’t work (even though it did)… but now it gives me an error trying to reconnect and now I’m forced to use the Wemo app to control my lights. There is a glitch on your end.

Wemo doesn't respond!

Did not work Wemo is not available on my Google home all together. Working through your steps, got to the list searched for Wemo, and put in ID and password and get the error cannot connect to Wemo at this time try later. Tried multiple times

Doing that comes back with the following message : Could not reach wemo. Please try again. From within the Wemo app or states that I am connected. Seems to be a Google Home issue connecting to Belkin Wemo services through the backend.

Hi Danzeword,
Thanks for your post and for the detailed information. Please try the following steps to resolve the situation:
Please try again and let me know how it goes.
Best regards,

Thanks for the note.
But this has been going on for over a month. During this time I've actually changed phones twice also, so caches and reinstallations have been done. I went from a Pixel 6 Pro to a Pixel4 temporarily and now have a Pixel 9 Pro. Again, I was able to control by using my voice, but would get a message stating that it's unreachable but would still work. In the Home app, all of Wemo devices were grayed out and couldn't be triggered. But the Wemo app showed them all working and were available in the Belkin app. I tried the reconnect option first for the past few months and was getting the same message as above. Only this week I decided to delete the connection... Well now I can't add it anymore and voice commands have now stopped working.
Please let me know if there is anything I can provide. Thank you

Hello, any news on the issue.
This is not an app issue but the connector between Google and Belkin.
If this is now unsupported by Google please share the information. Thank you

Tried again today and the issue still persists.

Nope. Did all that. No change.

Don't do what is recommended...
I feel there is an issue on the WEMO side as the app tells me I'm connected to Google, but I'm not.
This might be the issue Wemo doesn't "release" the connection after removing it from Google Home, so do not remove as the voice commands may still work more often than not. The home app still showed them grayed out but the voice commands would work weirdly.

Tried this and still doesn't work. Same "can't connect to Wemo" message

This also did not work. “Something went wrong. Try again.” Is the message I still get. I have rebooted, uninstalled, reinstalled. This is a glitch with your backend software.
Nope!! None of this works!

I tried the drastic uninstall/reinstall of Google Home, and a restart.
Still, comes back with the following message : Could not reach wemo. Please try again. . Seems to be a Google Home issue connecting to Belkin

They refuse to tell you wemo has stopped their support with Google. Just like with Alexa last year. They have about 500k devices they need to sell in inventory before closing the business so they won't ever say they are not supported any more until it's too late. I bought 30 of them 5 years ago and have been going through this for the past 8 months. No idea why Google doesn't come clean with us though. I guess tech companies cover for each other.

Thanks for the info. I'm slowly getting away from all this smart device thing through Google Home as the devices do not understand basic commands anymore. Their AI is dumber than the Google assistant from 5 years ago. "Turn on front porch" is understood as "direction to the porch" why??
I'll just use the Wemo app like I just use the cync app, etc... Was a good 10 years of automation but walking to a light switch is better.
Thanks

Tried again today and Wemo still cannot connect to the Google home API...
Will check again tomorrow.

I have wasted thousands of dollars on Google products and that is coming to an end. After I spent thousands of dollars on their home security system and cameras, they stopped supporting the security system and it became a brick. Now they're doing it to all my smoke detectors as well, they stopped making them and supporting them. Google products used to be awesome and now they are just garbage

Glad to see I’m not the only one. Obviously the Wemo app continues to work fine, but the Google Home app is completely broken. I wish someone would actually come out and say if Wemo is discontinuing support for their Google Home integration, or it’s a lack of willingness to fix something broken on Google’s side. Either way, this is a lot of money down the drain.

Same problem with me but it still work with Alexa !

Thinking of switching to Alexa actually devices are supported longer and deals are often better because of amazon

I just got off the phone with Belkin/Wemo support and they acknowledged that the integration broke between Google and them, and that their engineers were working on a fix. No ETA that he could share, but it does not sound like it will be permanently broken 🤞 (that said, not holding out hope for the long-term viability for this platform)

Same issue with me too. All greyed out

Hello I am having the same issue. Any word on this? I think it's between wemo and Google not an "us" thing...

I believe and I HOPE that is correct.

I called Wemo Customer Support, 8-fore-fore, seven five fore, nine-three-six-six, which is open Mon-Fri 9AM-9PM EDT, and was told that this is a known issue that they have been working on for a few weeks without any resolution, and any ETA for the unbricking of our devices.
Maybe everyone should call and create some urgency and increased demand for a resolution!
