Chromecast built in or external device chromecast?

I have a tv with chromecast built in, but what is the difference with the external plug in device for chromecast?  The TV is an older model. It may be 7 or so yrs old.

The main difference between the built-in Chromecast on your TV and an external Chromecast device is that the built-in version is integrated directly into your TV, while the external device can be plugged into any TV with an available HDMI port. The external Chromecast may offer updates and features that the built-in version on older TVs might not receive. However, for basic casting functionality, both should work well. If you're satisfied with your TV's built-in Chromecast, there might not be a significant need for an external device.

Thank you KaamDhanda, I basically thought that would be the case. I opted to buy the Google external device due to the age of the TV.  The device on sale is 20 bucks how can you go wrong, was my thought!
