Constant disconnection

About two weeks ago, when I wanted to use Google Assistant to turn off lights, the answer is that there was no connection.

To fix this, I need to turn off the lights throughout the house so it responds correctly again. Any suggestions?

If you're using an manufacturer's app to connect to Google Home then Reconnecting the app in Works with Google helps sometimes.

Hi YlunaM,

Thanks for reaching out to our community. I understand that your Google Assistant has frequently returned a 'no connection' error when asked to turn off the lights since two weeks ago, and the only temporary fix is cycling the power to all the lights in the house. Don’t worry, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • What is the make and model of your smartphone?
  • Is your smartphone's operating system up to date?
  • Do you have the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, you can find helpful instructions in this Google Nest Help Center article: Update the Google Home app.
  • What is the make and model of your lights?
  • Is the light maker’s app up to date?
  • Are your lights successfully set up on the same Wi-Fi network as your mobile device?
  • Are you able to control your lights with the maker’s app?
  • Did you assign a unique name to each one of your lights?
  • Are you having the inconvenience with a specific group of lights assigned in a certain room?
  • What specific command are you using to turn off your lights?
  • Are your lights connected to smart plugs or switches?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Virna
