Controlling devices remotely without wifi

Don_Dawood

I’m not sure if others have this challenge but all of my smart devices (lights, aircon, vacuums, geyser) are configured into my Google home app. Through the app I am able to control things remotely - for example turn on the heating before I get home. However this only works if I am connected to a wifi network - it can be any random wifi network in any part of the world or even just connecting to another phones hotspot. However if I am purely running of mobile data - I am not able to view/control anything through the Google home app.

is there a fix for this?

On mobile data, are devices showing as offline? Or does the app fail to load at all? My best guess with the limited info you've given is the Home app is being restricted from using mobile data. Either a phone setting to conserve data is on or the app itself is restricted to only function over wifi.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the input, @Gk1984.

@Don_Dawood, do you have a household member in your Home? If yes, are they experiencing the same behavior if they try to control the smart home devices in the Google Home app via their own mobile data?

Alex
