Done. Done. Done. With Google home ecosystem.

Trying to use a command that I’ve used continuously for at least 5 years.

“Hey google, turn off the thermostat.”

Google: sOrRy It LoOkS lIkE tHoSe LiGhTs haven’t been set up yet, you can do that in system settings.”

Okay, let’s try this again.

“Okay Google, turn off the nest thermostat.”

Same thing.

Okay, one more go.

“Hey Google, turn off the air conditioning.”

Again, thinks I’m asking about lights.

The seemingly intentional degradation of Google Home as a smart home system should be in for the textbooks. I will never understand why they made them so useless over time. Unreal.

@ApeSec

We use only a handful of voice commands and do not have a thermostat, but perhaps Google Nest changed the syntax for thermostat commands. Judging from other posts in this forum, it seems they do that and do NOT notify customers.

Perhaps this Help topic will help:

Hi @ApeSec!

Thank you for posting in the community, and to @MplsCustomer for jumping in! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Google Assistant commands for your Nest Thermostat and air conditioning. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • What specific Google Home device are you using when you give these commands? (e.g., Nest Mini, Nest Hub, a specific phone model with Google Assistant)
  • When you say "turn off the thermostat," is "thermostat" the exact name of the device in your Google Home app?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps? If so, could you please indicate which ones?
  • Is the Google Home app up to date?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi
