I would like to create script to turn off notifications for familiar faces.

i would like to be able to detect my dog in a zone and automate broadcasting “ <dog name> get off the couch”

Since you want that camera to trigger a broadcast telling your dog to get off couch, I'm going to assume the camera is indoors. If so, why not simply toggle off notifications for People (seen)? ...and leave the Animals toggle on? Do you really need a notifcation every time you have a stranger or guest (without familar face id) in your house? LMK if I'm missing something.

That’s a decent idea for the one indoors. Can I have a zone, detect only animals in that zone and then broadcast a command.  The indoor camera is currently a reused nest iq camera, but I will upgrade that one if this is possible in gen 2 camera

I have various Nest cams (indoor, outdoor, doorbell, etc..) & you can go into the settings on each individual cam & toggle on/off various notifications for each camera (e.g- person, animal, any motion, etc.. as well as set motion zones). Not sure about Nest iq cam but definitely check it out. No need for a script if you can simply have that indoor cam only notify you when an animal is detected.

Pro tip: Pair with the BuzzKill app to customize the notifications (sound, days/times to trigger, etc..)) BuzzKill adds very useful flexibility with Google Home & Nest notifications (among others) IMO.

Hi there!

Thanks for posting here in the community. I understand your concern about the Feature Request with Familiar faces. I'd be happy to help.

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What kind of Nest camera do you have?
    • Is it 1Gen or 2Gen?
  • Do you have an active Nest Aware subscription?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

Gen 2 indoor/outdoor cameras.

Im still riding the demo for two weeks but I plan on getting the 10 day recording plus 30 day? events.

i found the ability to write automations using json but doing things with “familiar face” doesn’t seem to have structures to accomplish turning off notifications for familiar face while keeping notifications on for “person”

the reason I’d like to do that is I will have 7 cameras by the time I’m done installing and if someone walks across my front or back yard they will generate 3 notifications on.

on of m family members has a stalker and I want notifications for person but I’d like to reduce the noise so that legitimate alerts don’t go unnoticed in the noise:

Hi there!

Thanks for the follow-up.

Let's check a few things:

  • Check your notification settings: Your camera is designed to alert you when it detects motion or recognizes faces. You can customize these notifications to your preference. Refer to this article: Home app notifications.
  • Enable Familiar Face Detection: With an active Nest Aware subscription, you can teach your camera to recognize familiar faces. This feature can help you stay informed about unrecognized individuals on your property. Also, you can Visit our Help Center to learn more about Familiar Face Detection.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Melany
