Gemini assistant is awful. It doesn't understand questions. It doesn't understand pronouns such as "How do I" versus "can you".
It removed features google assistant had. I can no longer ask a follow-up question without repeating hay google.
I have looked through the app on my phone and I've looked at my account settings, and I can't find a place in either of them to switch back.
How do I revert?

Hello @Unlikely,
Thank you for reaching out to the community. I can understand your situation with the transition to Gemini, especially when it feels like intuitive features such as "Continued Conversation" are no longer working properly. I know how important a seamless voice assistant experience is.
If you find that the new AI model isn't meeting your needs, you can indeed switch back to the classic Google Assistant on your mobile device.
The setting to switch back is tucked away inside the Gemini app settings on your phone. Here is how to find it:
On Android:
On iOS (iPhone/iPad):
If you are using the Google app on iOS, Gemini is usually a toggle at the top of the app.
You mentioned having to repeat "Hey Google" for every follow-up. While Gemini is still learning to handle the Continued Conversation feature consistently across all devices, reverting to Google Assistant will immediately restore that specific functionality to your phone.
For your Nest speakers and displays, please note that they primarily still use the classic Google Assistant engine for "Continued Conversation," though some logic is being updated. If those devices are also struggling, you can check those settings specifically:
I want to make sure you get your Assistant back to exactly how you like it. Let me know if you need something else.
Regards,
Kevin

Google needs to drop AI, it's not ready yet, too many F ups and wrong information. I'm so ready to throw my Google Automation crap away. I don't appreciate it listening to our conversations and my Nest thermostat software is on the third software change. Leave it alone!

I use IOS. My Google accounts/apps do NOT have a toggle. What do I do to revert to Google Assistant

Hi Kevin
I am on an iPhone.
When I open the Google Home app, there's not a "settings" button to tap. If I tap my profile picture there's an option for "Home Settings" but in there, there's no button for Google Assistant. There is one for "Gemini For Home voice assistant" but there's no setting for "Assistant" or for "Continued Conversation"
Do I have a different version of the app?
Thanks
-Max

Hi there! I understand how disappointing it feels when familiar Google Assistant features disappear after switching to Gemini. Sadly, Google doesn’t offer a simple “revert” button. You can check your device settings to switch the default assistant back (if available) or try disabling Gemini updates. If you’re exploring alternatives and want smarter text control, I suggest Humanize ChatGP you can explore here to see how it keeps AI responses natural and flexible.

The only way to fix this is to create a new Home, factory reset all the devices in your home and add it to the new Home.
This is terrible but the only method to fix this.

Hey, I spent way too much time on a single question and couldn’t figure out what was off, then I decided to see more and test my answer there. At first I still didn’t understand the mistake until I compared each step one by one, and that’s when it finally clicked. After that I moved through the rest much faster and didn’t get stuck again on similar problems.

The only way to turn Hey Google back on after switching back to Google Assistant is to do it through the Gemini app. I disabled the Gemini app because it totally messed up my home automation. I couldn't get Hey Google to work again until I reenabled Gemini, then I had to reactivate Hey Google in the Gemini app. Then, I changed the digital assistant back to Google Assistant in the Gemini app. It's a ridiculous process, but that's what worked.
