Google Home App on phone broken when Wyze cameras are involved

I have not been able to view any of my Wyze cameras or Wyze Video doorbell Pro through the Google Home app on my phone. However, I am able to view them via my Google Hub. I noticed there are a bunch having this same issue. Sure hope Google fixes this problem with their Home app!!!!

I am experiencing similar issues with my Eufy Doorbell and LA Vision security cameras.

For the record these devices are also not listed on the home.google.com Cameras page either.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. That certainly hasn’t been easy for the both of you. Let’s check out what’s going on. A few questions: what phone are you using (Android or iOS)? Is the Google Home app updated? Also, what steps have you taken so far? Try to reinstall the app and observe if it makes a difference. You can also both use another phone to isolate this.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Hello Juni,

I have an iPhone XR, and yes, my Google Home app is up to date. I have had Wyze cameras for over a year, and it’s always been an issue when I want to view them through my app. I have unlinked Wyze from my Google Home and relinked, no change. If my app is up to date, why would I need to reinstall it?! No, I don’t have another phone to try.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hey there,

To confirm, are you able to stream your cameras from the native app? Also, have you tried checking with Wyze support if they allow streaming their cameras on a third-party app like Google Home? There are devices that can be streamed on the Nest Hub but not on other apps.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi,

I have provided more details about the issues I am seeing in my post above.  I can confirm that all devices work perfectly in their associated apps.

I have contacted both device manufacturers regarding the issues I am experiencing.  I believe that Eufy is aware of the issue but have, as yet offered no solutions.  LA Vision is still investigating the problem.

Ian.

Hi IanSav,

Thanks for the additional details you’ve shared. Did you receive feedback from Eufy and LA vision yet? Please let us know by updating this thread.

Thanks,

Hi Juni,

I have requested updates from both Eufy and LA Vision.  Eufy have assigned my case with case number "[#TNR362559316]: Eufy Doorbell Camera No Longer Working In New Google Home App". LA Vision gave me a new firmware version to try but it didn't help.  (There were no release notes so I don't know what was changed.)  I don't have a case number with LA Vision.  Neither company has any detailed information to share with me.  Neither have any timeline for when I can expect the issues to be fixed.  I am not even sure that either company is really working on the issue.  😞

I suspect that Google has changed something and both companies, as well as other companies about whom others have been posting, are having issues with the changes.

May I ask what resources are Google applying to help their partners to address these and other issues?  In my opinion Google does not appear to be taking the ever increasing issues with Google Home and Google Assistant very seriously.  It is now common knowledge that Google Assistant voice recognition quality has deteriorated over the years.  The number of commands being miss-heard and/or incorrectly actioned is ever increasing.

I have had a bug report regarding Google being unable to understand and process temperature and humidity from sensors open for almost a year.  (If you want to look at this issue please refer to Case ID [7-5211000034501].)  Google has made no progress in fixing these issues.  I mention this here because Google Automations now allow triggers from temperature and humidity sensors.  This would be great if only Google correctly understood how to talk to those sensors.  I am having issues with my Ecobee HVAC controller and Tuya temperature and humidity sensors.  At the moment only the Tuya humidity sensors are showing up in Google Automations.

I am hoping that, by voicing these issues here, you may be able to get some traction on getting these issues fixed for me and all Google ecosystem users.  Please feel free to contact me here or directly via email or telephone if you would like to discuss the issues in any more detail.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Juni,

I assume you are familiar with the comments regarding Google Assistant issues. In my previous post I mentioned that one of the bugs I reported has been in the system for almost a year without any resolution. We now have the camera issues as per this thread.
In case you are not familiar with the complaints about Google Assistant, here are some public posts on the issues:

It is not hard to find people concerned about the devolution of Google Assistant. I am posting this in the hopes that you can feed our concerns to those who may be able to effect changes and corrections ASAP.

Regards,

Ian.

Hi Juni,

Unfortunately, after almost a year the case is not progressing.  Perhaps you may be able to give the engineers a nudge to start making progress in fixing the long standing, and often complained about, issues.  After seeing some of the new Alexa changes about to be delivered I think Google has even more catching up to do.

Regards,

Ian.

Hi Juni,

Thanks for responding.

I am using Google Home app version 3.4.1.5 and Eufy Security app version 4.7.1_1774.

I have tried completely removing the link between Eufy and Google Assistant and then recreating the link from scratch.  The HomeBase 2 and Doorbell are correctly re-added to the device list.  I can stream the Doorbell camera from all my Nest Hubs though it may be worth noting that there is an error triangle shown on the camera list item for the Eufy Doorbell.  Tapping the Doorbell camera panel starts the camera streaming with no observed issues.

I can't cast the Doorbell camera to any of my Chromecast devices.  All I see is the error "Camera feed is not available."!

In the Google Home app the Doorbell camera is listed but the Google Home app sits in a loop trying to access the camera and then eventually shows the error "Camera unavailable" with an error triangle and a "Retry" button.  Pressing "Retry" doesn't appear to change anything.  If I tap the Doorbell camera panel I open the full screen camera view but I get two error lines "Camera unavailable" and "Live video unavailable" and a "Retry" button.  Again "Retry" does not recover from the error.

For the LA Vision NVR system I see the list of cameras in the Google Home app but the camera panels are either blank or show the error "Camera unavailable".  When I tap on any of the camera panels I get the full screen camera view with the tag "LIVE" shown in the top left of the screen but there is no content being streamed (no video and no audio).

On the other hand if I ask for an LA Vision camera to be streamed to any Chromecast device it appears to work without issue.

I hope this information helps you to resolve these issues.  If you need any further information then please ask.

Regards,
Ian.
