Google Home status May 2025

We have all been on a long road with the Google smart home eco-system.  I believe someone from google owes all of us an explanation, or at least some glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.  The issues are countless, the updates are sparse, and the suggested solutions are moot.

  • At least daily, I am told to "Reconnect" my devices, although they can be controlled by the app just not via Nest hub.
  • Regularly telling the bedroom Nest Hub to stop, because it played something unintentional, it will randomly pick a different device in the household to stop whatever is playing (I.E "OK, Stopping living room Chromecast"
  • We were promised a web version of the google home app and were given a nest cam web browser view.  Every time this is brought up we get a canned response.  Please someone from Google, now is the time!  You are either going to make it happen or your not.  You owe us an answer.  home.google.com has been in Public Preview for 2+ years. Just give us an answer.
  • Thank you for Gemini on nest devices.  It was nice to actually see some development on this eco system.  It works marginally better than Assistant albeit inconstantly.

I have tons of google devices (6 Chromecast, 6 speakers/displays, 7 cameras / doorbells, Nest WiFi, Nest Thermostat) on top of the other devices that "works with google".  I am just asking for a real update, not a canned response, or a suggestion for leaving feedback.  I would love a roadmap of whats being worked on, or at least an acknowledgement that we are not being abandoned.  Please Google, its time, you owe this to all of us.

Your first bullet point is something I keep experiencing over and over.  I am on my second Thermostat because they just keep disconnecting from my network and never able to connect again.  I've only had the replacement for about 3 weeks and it's already done the same thing!!

Having to reconnect devices is more about the quality of the third party devices you bought. My LIFX bulbs have never needed this done. I don't even have the LIFX app on my phone anymore.

My Tuya occasionally loose connection, but eventually find their own way back onto the network.

That could very well be. The most recent switches I bought were TP-Link, and they seem to work a lot better than the Belkin ones.  It's still pretty frustrating that the speaker says that it can't do it, but the app can.

  • I don't think Belkin still supports its smart home products. Their WeMo app hasn't had an update in years.

My original WeMo (big form) plugs and sensors are still plugging along with the thanks to Google. Thank you Google 👍
