Google Home stopped working with Aqara fp2

DougArgyll

Google Home Automations were working just fine with the Aqara fp2 until a few days ago. Google Home shows the sensor states of presence or absence.  I haven't changed any settings or automations.  It was working fine in the morning but not in the afternoon. I'm at a loss

Same here. It just stopped working. Actually, it does work if you have the home app open on the devices tab, but that's obviously not much help.

Well it's good to know that it's not just me.  Still frustrating though.

The Alexa routines still work.  The Google home automations are better since it uses conditions.  This problem was there when I first got the fp2.  Eventually either Aqara or Google fixed the problem and it work well.  Someone must have unfixed it last week.

I reconnected the Aqara app to Google Home and the Fp2 routines work.  I'm sure I did that on the day the routines stopped working.  Apparently I didn't.

So try reconnecting Google Home to the Aqara app.

Good Licl

Hi Juni,

Reconnecting has worked for me for only a limited time, the problem keeps coming back in my case. I have to reconnect all the time to keep it working, it’s very frustrating.

Sometimes, it worked for a day, sometimes for only few hours after reconnecting.  Today, the reconnection didn’t work at all. I have to refresh the google home app too frequently for the automations to work as properly.

I bought two FP2 to test it in november and it worked properly for a while so I bought three more and was very excited about this very useful product, but now, since I have five of them installed, it keeps not working properly.

Please help

If it can help solve the problem,

I'm from Canada, I'm using latest version of Aqara for US and Other

Latest version of Google Home

And I control the two apps on IPhone XR with the latest version available of IOS which is 17.1.2

I must say, i'm not sure but I think the problem begin to occur when I updated to the new IOS version.

I tried to reset my Wi-fi connection, re-connect Google Home to Aqara several times, all my other automations using other Matter devices (Eve Motion) are working as expected.

But the Aqara FP2 issue persists, I have to manually refresh the Google Home app to get the automations working properly.

Thank you for the reply, hopefully more people reporting the issue will get Google to look at this.

And.

I am running android, and I did also have a recent update to my phone. But it didn't matter if my phone was on or off or connected to the Internet, it would work flawlessly no matter what. I am thinking Google might have updated/patched something in the last week that might have broke the background syncing.

It works if I manually sync in the app, or if I say, Hey Google Sync My Devices, to force the sync verbally works for a minute and then goes back to unresponsive.

Thanks Hclipper,

i’m new to this community,

is there someone from Google follow up on the situation or do we have to cross fingers. I don't often complain about this kind of thing but I must admit that I am really disappointed. This situation means that I have to rethink all the automations of my home. I thought I no longer had to touch a switch or thermostat but now I have to re-adjust the routines that I deleted after setting the FP2. It's really time consuming. This is diametrically opposed to the idea of a smart home.

I don't think anyone has reached out to Google about this as I don't think it is a Aqara issue.

This happened to me a little while ago maybe a month ago for a few days and then just "fixed it's self". So I am gonna give a few more days as personally it doesn't affect me that much, I just have it for some soft string lights in my office.

But I recommend reaching out to Google Home support and see if a bug report/ticket can be created.

Hi,

Reconnecting has worked for me too. I definitely *did* try that before and it didn't work then, so I guess something else has been changed which needed the reconnect to trigger it? Anyway, seems to be working again, hooray!

Many thanks to Doug!

Cheers

I tried re-linking but it's still not working for me. The problem started a few days ago.

I have the exact same issue. Once I manually go to the Google Home app and refresh my devices, it syncs and lights turn on, which kinda defeats the purpose of the set up. Was working just fine for months now it does not as of this week.

I've tried to resync Aqara in the Google home app multiple times to no avail.

Frustrating and I hope they "unfix" what ever they fixed this week.

Here is a small, less than helpful, update.

It suddenly started working for me yesterday. I got all excited and turned off my emergency IFTTT routines, but it's stopped working again today (unless I open the Home app).

There's something happening, I guess, but I'm still sad.

I should have said that it stopped working again after my successful re-connect, then did the stuff in my previous post.

Everything started working again for me yesterday as well. Haven't had any issues today as of yet. Monitoring today as I am remote today in my office.

In my case, it still not working until I refresh the Google App.

So, mine stopped again, I reconnected (couple of days ago) and it's been working ever since. Long may it last.

Mines are finally working, I didn’t do anything special. But for how long? The future will tell us. I must say I’m hopeful.

Yesterday it started working again.  I had disabled the Google Home routines and enabled the Alexa routines the week before. And then I noticed a Google Home routine (I missed disabling it) was working so I enabled all the Home routines and disabled the Alexa stuff.  The Home routines have been working just fine.  Mystery to me.

After unlinking and re-linking (yet again) ... it has started to work for me too.

To update everyone.

I run a Home Assistant instance on my network and while I was researching my syncing issue I realized that the LP2 supports HomeKit and Home Assistant has a HomeKit plugin.

One the LP2 is connected to the HomeKit plugin it communicates locally with my server and since I have my other plugs and lights locally controlled with home assistant, it was just a quick rule to make in Home Assistant and now my LP2 is now controlling my office lights locally and is very very fast now.

If anyone needs any links or information on this: https://youtu.be/jbbmHuAfUMw?si=zn3pLCwXYD_3m7So

This is the video I used, PS I have an android phone and no apple devices and this worked great. TLDR: If you LP2 is set up, while your HA is up, unplug your sensor wait a few, plug it back in, go back to HA, go to HomeKit device and it should pop up. Well at least this worked for me with my set up. YMMV.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out.

Edit: I should mentioned I unlinked my Aqara account with Google Assistant and now just run it locally with Home Assistant, so there is no talking to Google servers now.

The problem is back this morning. The automations doesn’t work until I refresh google home. I didn’t touch anything, I don’t understand, It was working perfectly for 1 week.

Ever since my last update.
I havnt had any issues, if you are into home automation and dont mind a little tinkering I highly reccomend ditching using google cloud as the middle man and be your own middle man. Faster and more reliable.
But I also understand that this isnt possible for everyone and every situation.
If self hosting sint feisible then go over to: https://support.google.com/assistant/thread/new
And describe the issue on that forum and see if you can get in contact with anyone, since this is the Nest forums and this issue kinda falls out of scope of this forum since we have figured out that it is a Google Assistant syncing issue.

Didn't work for me this morning as well. I'll try refreshing Google Home to see if that helps.

I'm having the problem with detection, I have managed to set up the fp2 in Google and set up zones, and I have the lights coming on when I say sit on the sofa, great, so then I set up the automation to turn it off when no presence.

that's where it does not work,

  • so on the detect when there is no presence routine on the Google app there is a timer feature which I set to 0 as I want it to detect when I'm not on the sofa, I also tried it using a 5-second delay when the 1st didn't work, but what's happening is this,
  • I enter the sofa zone and sit down, and the light comes on great, But then either turns off right away or after 5 seconds. for some reason it's not detecting when I leave the sofa, this is acting like a normal PIR sensor and detecting movement, so how can I fix this, as right now my lights are on and then right off again, meaning this sensor is useless. and y help from anyone would be great, I'm using Android if that helps and Google Home

I have been experiencing the same as chloe4479 has since I purchased the FP2 on its release date.

I have two zones created one each for two panel lights I have. I also have two automations for each zone, one to turn lights on when movement is detected after sunset and one to turn off the light after a minute of no presence. The lights will come one but will either go off after a few seconds or randomly if no movement has happened. I have contacted Aqara about this and they could not find an answer from their software either. They even sent me a new sensor to try and resolve the issues, but it did exactly the same as the previous one.

Has anyone else had any luck with these devices?

Hi, were you able to get past this issue? The problem is Google Home thinks it's a motion sensing device and not an occupancy sensing device, so I couldn't use the script editor to use the occupancy sensing.

Unfortunately not. It has been entirely ignored.
