I got a Google Nest Thermostat to replace my Nest Thermostat and I’m appalled by how screwed up the replacement process has been. Starting with the physical replacement of the actual thermostat module which does not reuse the same mounting screws and continuing through the setup, the process is not poorly designed and poorly communicated by Google. What a disappointment!

I can only chime in. I was very disappointed that there was no help to transition. My NEST Learning Thermostats (2nd Gen) were fine but with the imminent service discontinuation, I took the plunge and invested into two brand new Google Nest.
I was expecting a similar experience when you switch from your old iPhone to the next.
NO. Not at all what this was like.
even the qr codes provided sent me to the wrong configuration (for Nest E etc.) and I was treated as if I did a complete new install. As if there was not even the existence of a previous Nest. No transfer of schedules or settings. Nothing.
On top of it, I thought this might be just a little more advanced. But no.
Something as simple as ToU is not supported in a meaningful way.
Nest Renew is there but this is completely oblivious to the way my power tariff is structured.
It's a very frustrating experience and I am not only deeply disappointed, I deeply regret that I stayed loyal to the Nest brand- because there was no benefit. In fact, I ended up with an inferior product compared what I could have purchased for the same money.
