Google TV remote

When I use my phone as a remote for my television, it’s like it times out - I am continually having to re-“pair” it.  Suggestions?

• When did this issue start happening?
• What color is the LED light on the remote when it disconnects?
• How far away is the Chromecast from the remote?
• Have you tried changing the batteries?
• What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?
