I have been streaming via chromecast for many years without problem, but suddenly I could not connect to my chromecast despite it showed on my tv screen. I check my WiFi but it was fine. I opened my google home app and could see that there was a problem here. I tried to deleted the app and reinstall it and also installing the google nest app. But now I am not able to connect with my gmail. I get this error message “failed to connect to all addresses: last error:UNKNOWN” and in the nest app it just say could not connect try again later.
now I’m stucked and cannot use my chromecast at all and I don’t know what to do from here.

thanks in advance!

Hi @Sidsemarieb

Thanks for posting in the community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re receiving the message “failed to connect to all addresses: last error: UNKNOWN” when trying to sign in with your email after reinstalling the Google Home app. I also notice that your Chromecast has suddenly stopped connecting, despite still appearing on your TV screen. I appreciate you troubleshooting and confirming your Wi-Fi is working fine. I know how frustrating it is when things are not working as expected, so I’m here to help get your Chromecast working again.

To find the right solution, I just need a few more details:

  • What specific streaming device model are you having trouble with? Here’s a helpful article about how to identify the model of your device.
  • When did you first notice the issue with connecting your Chromecast?
  • Would you mind sending over a photo or screenshot of the error message?
  • Besides the troubleshooting you already performed, have you tried any additional steps? If so, could you list them?
  • Have you already tried signing in to the app using "Sign in with Google"?

Just a heads up, streaming devices are managed exclusively through the Google Home app, so we’ll perform all of our troubleshooting steps there to avoid any app misunderstandings.

Any additional details you can provide will be very helpful.

Best regards,

Stephanie

Hi, that error usually points to a network/DNS issue rather than the Chromecast itself. Try fully rebooting your modem, router, and Chromecast (in that order), and make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network (not a guest network). Also disable any VPN or Private DNS on your phone temporarily. If you still can’t sign in, clear cache/data for Google Play Services and the Google Home app, then try again.
