Google home automation timing wrong

Michelle15

I set up an automation to turn on a smart plug 30 minutes after sunset and turn it off at 10pm. However it consistently turns it on right at sunset and off at 9pm. It clearly has the right time zone as the sunset time is accurate but I can’t figure out why the on/off times don’t match what I set in the automation. I tried changing the off time to 11pm but it still turns off at 9pm exactly. Please advise!

  • Is it one Automation with a schedule and a delay?
  • Or schedule and "Turn OFF light at 10pm"
  • Could you have different automation or app turning the light off at 9pm?
  • until you work out what's going on you could trigger the light to turn back on for 1 hour after turning off at 9pm.
  • You could utilise 2 automations.

Hi @Michelle15,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you are experiencing an issue with your automation where your smart plug is turning on at sunset instead of 30 minutes after sunset and consistently turning off at 9:00 PM, despite being scheduled for 10:00 PM, even failing when set to 11:00 PM. I appreciate you confirming the troubleshooting steps you have tried so far. I'm happy to assist.

@SmartHomeH-TAGS, Thanks for jumping in.

To gather the necessary information, please answer the following questions:

  • Is the Google Home app up to date?
  • Have you tried using another device to create the automation? If so, was the timing issue still present?
  • Have you checked on the manufacturer’s app for possible schedules that could be affecting the automation?

I'll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards.

Derick.
