Google nest cam indoor automation to turn on home alarm siren.

I have the indoor Google Nest Cam wired.

When I go out and no one is home, if it detect a person, I want it to automatically turn on a home siren like the Arlo Chime 2 (https://www.arlo.com/en-au/accessories/AC2001-100AUS.html).

Could someone share experience in setting up the automation like this?

Is there another option to set up the home siren automation?

Thank you for your input.

Hi Tommi,

The Google Home app and the home and away routines can not create a siren for your doorbell.

Please have a look at the manufactures website linked below for more information about linking with the Google assistant.

Thank you. Will try this. Would you have some idea on how to automate this? For example someone enters door while we're away. Google Nest Cam recognises movement and turns on siren.

Do I need to do this using a 3rd party non-Google product? Thank you.

Hi again,

For my own advanced automations I use the free Home Assistant software running 24/7 on a Raspberry Pi

I use a cheap Xiaomi door sensor as a trigger that sends my phone a Pushbullet notification, turns on the hallway light for two minutes and a Xiaomi camera uploads a 10 second video clip to the cloud (longer duration clips require a subscription). I could also make any of my Google Home/Nest speakers play alerts, but I don't require this myself.

The Google Home app doesn't currently allow for advanced automations. There's no way for a camera motion detection or any other sensor to trigger something else to happen.

Google has said that they are working on new advanced features in the future.

Thank you for the information.

Could you please give me a hint on what to use to do the below:

When setting up Home Assistant you can have it recognize Google devices.

I would create an automation using Home assistant..

And one of the actions I would use would be to cast to any of my devices either a spoken message or an alert sound I have stored as a media file

Have a look at some of the demos available on the Home assistant website.

Happy to help.

If you do decide to try using home automation software like Home Assistant they have a great, helpful community on their own website and also on Reddit.

I found the link below that seems to suggest that Arlo cameras work with Home Assistant...

Also Google Nest cameras can be used with Home Assistant and motion detection and this would require you to pay a $5 to access the Nest smart device management API.

https://developers.google.com/nest/device-access/api

I haven't used this myself as I find a simple door sensor to be easier to configure for knowing if my door has opened.

Thank you so much for the information and your help. I have set up the Home Assistant. Now I'm trying to learn how to setup the automation using Node-RED.
