In the setting for the Home and Away Routines if the Google home app, it shows a default voice command to activate each routine. When using those voice commands into any phone or Google Nest device in our home nothing happens, just a message that the routine can’t be run. How do I get these to work? I use the presence sensing for when we leave the house but I’d also like to use the voice command as a way of starting the cameras at night. Has anyone figured out how to make this system work properly?

Hi Malonzi5150,
It's not possible to switch cameras on/off using voice commands.

I understand it’s not possible to switch on cameras directly with a command. But why can’t I activate the Home or Away routines with the pre-programmed voice command? The commands are a default within the app, and the whole system recognizes them, they just don’t work.

Hi again,
You can activate the Home/Away routine with a voice command if it doesn't contain actions that switch cameras on or off.
Edit: Why Google have designed it this way I don't know, this community forum is mainly supported by other users like myself.
The best way of getting your thoughts, feedback or feature requests to the people that can make changes is by submitting feedback as detailed within the link below.

Hey there,
Thanks for the help, Cathal_S!
Malonzi5150 While turning on/off cameras only use presence-based in the home and away routines, voice commands can't change the status of cameras or the Nest Secure, for security reasons. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. Check this guide for more information.
Best,
Alex
