How to troubleshoot reason for failure?

egburr

More and more often, my automations will fail to turn on/off various lights, and I can't figure out any reasons why this could be. It will be one random light out of a set, and that one light is ignored for hours while I argue with google. This is occurring across multiple brands. I have a set of 3 bulbs controlled through Smart Life, 4 through Feit, 2 through Meross, and a bunch through Kasa / TP-Link. Opening up the affected light's app, I can easily turn it on/off through its app. But the google automation continues to fail that one light out of the set, until suddenly 20, 30, 90 minutes later it just starts working with that light, too, again. How can I find out why?

Hi @egburr,

Thanks for the detailed report and contacting this community! It sounds like your light automations are inconsistently failing, with random lights becoming unresponsive to Google Home for a while, even though they work in their own apps. This is happening across multiple brands. I'm here to help you.

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • Have you tried rebooting your Wi-Fi router recently?
  • Could you let me know if this issue started happening after any specific changes to your smart home setup?
  • Have you tried removing and recreating your automation?

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Eduardo
