Location based routines

Hello

I am new to the Google home ecosystem and am struggling to get a few things working.

1. I can't get a personal routine to fire based on location.  I'm looking for my gate to be opened when I approach the area.  The gate is a matter window covering under the skin abd gHome recognises it as shutters.  Whatever I do the routine is never started automatically.  Permissions on my phone are enabled of course.

2.  Depending on the trigger I can't seem to select the open/close UI for the shutters/gate.  If I select a trigger in voice then the UI is present.  If on location it's not.  Does anyone know the thinking here?

Using gHome app on a fully updated pixel 8.  The hub is a nest mini.

Thanks in advance for any help others can offer..

Location triggers can take several minutes to activate. The radius around your home is usually 150 meters, so if you're coming home in a car then you would be home before it triggers.

Look on the 'Activity' page to see the actual time your Home switched to Home and Away.

If you set up a voice trigger "I'm Home" and said that to your phone's voice assistant the routine would start in seconds.

Thank you. I have voice activated routines but I was specifically looking for a geofence trigger that would work the way like other ecosystems (fairly instant). Not sure why anyone thought to introduce such a long delay. Perhaps it's how often android publishes internal updates to subscribed services

Maybe increasing the geofencing radius might work better for you.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting in the community. I’m sorry to hear that your personal routines are not activated by your location. I’ll be more than glad to help you.

It seems that you have issues managing the presence sensing in your Home & Away routines.

Please follow the steps below to activate the presence sensing:

  • Change which devices start a Home or Away Routine
  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings  and then Presence sensing.
  3. Select the devices that you want to use for presence sensing. These devices help determine if everyone's away or someone's home.
  • Enable or disable phone location for presence sensing
  1. When you allow your home to use phone location, home members can choose to let their phones help with presence sensing.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap Settings  and then Presence sensing.
  4. Turn Allow this home to use phone locations on or off.

you can also take a look at the following article: Change Home & Away Routines settings.

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Regards,

Derick.
