Media alarms stop working after snooze

yahtzee9820

For the past 1.5 years I've been relying on a Lenovo smart clock and Google media alarms. However recently I noticed that the alarms were only playing the default alarm tones. At first I thought it was my unreliable wifi or my wife unplugging and moving my clock to listen to music in another room. But after several rounds of testing this issue happens on my smart clock and two nest hub displays (1st and 2nd gen) and always after snoozing. Is there a setting in the home app that I'm missing? Did Google break this feature feature with an update?

Hey yahtzee9820,

Thanks for reaching out — let's see what's going on.

What's the exact command and what's the response of your smart displays when setting up a media alarm? Also, when did it start happening?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your Google Home and Google Assistant app. Rebooting your devices are router might help too. If the issue persists, reset your Google Nest Hub.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Alex

I use the "Hey Google, set an alarm with music" command and follow all of the prompts. And I want to say it started maybe two months ago? But I'm not certain.

I've already tried reinstalling the app, factory resetting all devices and even replaced my router for a more reliable connection. Still the same issue every time without fail.

Hi yahtzee9820,

Thanks for trying. Could you please provide your device's cast firmware version?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Princess

There is also a thread about this on the Lenovo forums.  Google and Lenovo have both been blaming each other, but judging by this and other questions here it seems like Google have broken/disabled media alarms for everywhere except the US.

It would be great if they could at least acknowledge it and explain why instead of leaving us in the dark.

Hi sallygee,

We appreciate all the info you've shared. Media alarms is only available in the US and this feature is available in the following languages:

  • Google Nest and Home speakers: English, French (France and Canada), German, Japanese and Spanish
  • Google Nest displays: English (United States)

If you are outside US, we’d like to encourage you to send a feedback for any features that you’re looking forward to using with our Google Nest devices.

Best,

Princess

Do you know why this has changed?  It used to work perfectly in the UK.  I had an alarm clock that I loved for a year, and now I have had to replace it.

That's especially funny when the issue exists on Nest Hubs as well. Fix your stuff Google.

Hi everyone,

I appreciate all your efforts on trying some steps. Can anyone try to reset the Google Nest speakers and set their language to English US? As soon as it is completely set up, try to check if you will get the same results.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Princess

Considering I'm in the US that's what I do every time
