Does the previous owner need to remove the camera from the app before i do a factory reset and take it over?

Yes. If the previous owner didn’t remove it from their account, you may need to wait until their video history expires to be able to set it up with your account.

I have the same issue.  Is there not a way for you to reset  the device?

Hi @BradT_

As it mentions in the article I linked above, it depends which model of camera you have. For simplicity:

  • Cameras set up in the Google Home app: Perform a factory reset on the camera and pair it to your account.
  • Cameras set up in the Nest app: After the previous owner's video history has expired, which can take up to 60 days, you'll be able to pair the camera to your account. If you're unsure when the video history will expire, check again in a week or two. There is no way to expedite this process unfortunately.
