My Google Nest Mini does not work anymore

Thereth
Community Member

Hi

My device seems not to work any longer. My phone doesn’t recognize it whenever I try to connect it and when I speak to it, it always says “there’s something wrong, wait a few minutes or unplug and plug the device in”, but it doesn’t work.

I already tried to reset the device. I don’t know what else I can do. Please help!

Hi Thereth,

I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should. Let’s further look into it. A few questions: how did you do the reset? Are you using a dual-band router? If yes, on which band are you connecting your Google Nest Mini?

Try to do the steps below:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  • Reboot your router, unplug it for 2 mins.
  • Turn off and on WiFi connection on your phone.
  • Try to set up your Google Nest Mini again.

Regards,
Alex

Hello Thereth,

I just wanted to check if your router is dual-band? Have you tried connecting Google Nest Mini to both bands? If yes, try doing the next steps below:

  • Change the DNS address on your router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
  • Reboot your router, unplug it for 2 mins > Plug back in.
  • Once the router has booted up, unplug Google Nest Mini for a minute.
  • Give it a test command.

Kind regards,
Alex

I don’t know if it’s dual band but my other google nest works as usual. I can’t change the DNS address of the router and the router is not connected to the device.

Hey there,

Oh, I understand. Give this a try:

  • Move Google Nest Mini closer to the main router.
  • Factory reset your Google Nest Mini once more. You should hear a confirmation that it's about to reset the device followed by a chime. After a few minutes, you will get an announcement saying: “Welcome to Google Home. To get started …”.
  • Proceed with the set up. If your phone can’t discover Google Nest Mini;
    • Open your phone’s WiFi settings and look for a “NestMini.XXXX” network name > Connect to it > Go back to the Google Home app > Continue the set up.
  • Test command.

Sincerely,
Alex

The many does respond to changing my hallway temperature but it will not give me any information. Such as what is the weather today.

I have retried everything. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. It connected to my wifi but I cannot conyrol it with my Google Pixel

It is brand new. I set it. up as instructed. It does not respond to "hey google". When I tap the center it speaks in another language

didn’t work.

it happens two scenarios, either i can’t connect to the device or i cannot pair it even though my internet is completely stable and the device is literally next to the router.

@Alex_S i have the same problem. I own 6 Nest/Google homes, I have used them in three different apartments (internet setups) and two different countries, but all of a sudden some of them will no longer let me connect them to the wifi during setup. I tried restarting router, factory reset the devices, and nothing helps. I even tried to sync them with another - not Gmail, instead of my Google Workspace account.

What to do?

There's no way to solve this, the specialist just referred me to my local warranty options since Google won't take responsibility of this.

are you kidding me? I'll wait to get their direct answer, that's completely crazy..

I figured it out! I had to change the location on my phone to US (iPhone, iOS).
General > Settings > Language & Region > Region > United States.

Not sure why it worked, so I will just share all that I do know:

My iPhone was purchased in Denmark, but currently located in Spain.
My Google Home Speakers have been purchased both in Denmark and Spain.
My Gmail account is a Google Workspace account (though it didn't work with my gmail navtive account either)

So basically nothing is US based though switching the region worked out.

I am experiencing this very problem for over a month. I have now tried three different households, including a mesh system and positioning the Nest Mini 30cm from the router and then the mesh, hard reboots, app re-installation. The Nest mini works for a bit and then drops off. In one household it "Sorry there was a glitch"-ed straight away. The Google Home Mini (1st gen device) continues to work. I swapped the devices to the other locations to identify if location was an issue. The Home Mini continues to work but Nest Mini  has the same issue.

The Nest Mini worked for two years perfectly and then one decided to play up.

Yes. I have had the same issue with my Nest mini too. It had been working for two years and now it keeps going into "hmm, there has been a glitch, please try again later" state.

@Alex_S

It would be good to know if this after any specific update that Nest minis have been showing such behavior.

There at least four of us in this thread with the same issue. Please help resolve this.

Same issue with mine. rebooted my wifi several times based on google support advice, rebooted my nest, they told me to update my internet speed and modem, which I already did this year and all my other devices work perfectly fine including the mini until two days ago. No resolution

Same issue with my mini's. (Second generation).

I had one working for 30 minutes, but then it told me to install it again.

I guess Google does not support the mini's anymore.

Hi PietKei,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I am sorry to hear that your Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen devices are not working anymore, and you have one of them that works for 30 minutes, but then it asks to install it again. No worries, I’m more than happy to help you!

To provide you with better assistance, I would appreciate it if you answered the following questions:

  • Have you already tried the troubleshooting steps provided by Alex_S in this thread?
  • Did your Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen devices stop working at the same time?
  • Can you describe the status of the 4 LED lights? (Please go to this article for reference: Google Nest and Google Home device LED lights.)
  • Did you receive any error messages in the Google Home app after performing a factory data reset and trying to set up your Google Nest Mini?
  • Have you tried connecting the Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen devices to a different power source?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a change in Wi-Fi network or recent outages?
  • What is the make and model of the mobile device you're using for setup?
  • Besides the factory reset, what other steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Virna

If your Nest Thermostat won't turn on, the batteries could have drained or there could be a power issue get help 1-866-7191OO6. If there's a power issue, your thermostat's battery will drain and it'll turn off Wi-Fi, the display, and other features to preserve battery life.
