Nest Doorbell Camera

These are the following issues I have with the Nest doorbell device:

  • Occasionally only captures a person as they're walking out of view. Even if they're walking slowly. Sensitivity is set to HIGH. Don't get video of them walking into FOV.
  • Latency from time someone walks thru the FOV and an alert on the app is too long. They can be halfway down the block sometimes.
  • Should have setting to change the FOV. The wider the angle, the less definition of the subject. Details lost making identification harder.
  •  Get alert, but when checking it, met with video not accessible?!!! I want to see or what set off the alert ASAP, not 5 minutes later.

The 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Doorbell always runs on battery power, if it its wired. And since it is running on battery power, it has to "wake up" from "idle mode" before it can record an event that it detects.

We have a 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Camera, plugged in with the optional power cable. Unlike the doorbell, the camera is always "Live" when it is plugged in, and we have a Nest Aware Plus subscription for 24/7 recording. But if we unplug our camera--so that it is running on battery power--it does not do a very good job of detecting and recording events.

"24/7 video history isn't available for the Nest Doorbell (battery), even with optional wired installation."

"If you’ve connected your Nest Doorbell (battery) to your existing doorbell wiring, the wires don’t directly power the doorbell. Instead, the battery is trickle charged by the power that comes through the wires, and the doorbell runs off the battery charge."

And the aspect ratio of the battery doorbell is higher and narrower than the old 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbells that we still have.

@Séamus

Which doorbell do you have, the 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell, the 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Doorbell, or the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell?

Thanks for the response.

All I tell from the packaging and invoice is that it's a Nest Doorbell (battery) (SNOW)

I bought them in November 2024 if that helps.

Thanks
