Nest Hub Spotify Hang and Stop Music

RoyzeZack
Community Member

Hey guys,

I have issues with Nest Hub when it connect to Speaker Group it sometimes hang at the Spotify logo and stop entire Speaker group music playback

My Group Speaker Setup

*2 Nest Mini 2nd Gen

*1 Nest Audio

*1 Chromecast with Google TV

*1 Nest Hub

Whenever I create a group speaker and add the Nest Hub, it sometimes crashes the playback and all speakers go silent after playing music for 15 seconds. This is due to Spotify on Nest Hub failing to load and dragging the entire group speaker to silent.

As far as I can tell, the Nest Hub always tries to be the lead speaker for the group, but since it took over when it failed to load Spotify, it caused every speaker in the group to stop playing.

My assumption for this issue is that because of my subscription to Spotify "Personal Premium", it detects Nest Hub as another smartphone device that tries to take over my smartphone's Spotify. because when I do troubleshoot, the hub will say, "The music has stopped since Spotify is being used on another device."

Can you guys make the Nest Hub like other Nest speakers? It should not act like a smart phone. Also, there is no option to uninstall Spotify from the hub. So I'm kind of stuck with these issues.

Temporary Solution: I probably will exclude the Hub from Group Speaker, but I feel it was a waste, and the Nest Hub is not cheap, but it becomes quite useless when it cannot join as Speaker for my music playback.

Any other solution from the community will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi RoyzeZack,

Thanks for reaching out — let’s see what’s going on. A few questions: When did the issue begin? What is the distance between your Google Nest Hub and your Wi-Fi router? Also, what steps have you taken to fix it aside from removing it from the speaker group? Try to reboot your Wi-Fi router, and once the network is back up, do the same thing to your Google Nest Hub. Moving your Nest Hub near the router might also help.

Let me know how it goes.

Juni

Router is very close like 7 feet from hub

please refer the video url at bottom for the error that occur for more depth understand for the issues, it occur like sometimes like probability 50% of time. also when i join the hub to google speaker group the hub rename itself to be the group name automatically like example

Hub i give name : Prime Hub

Speaker groups : All Audio

when i join the google hub to speaker group it rename itself to "All Audio" automatically

Hey RoyzeZack,

Thanks for sharing the video. It looks like the video did not capture the issue on the Nest Hub. Could you send a screen shot showing the devices on your speaker group?

Apologise with wrong video sent, basically my music stop because of hub failed to run the Spotify, since the hub failed to load then it stop the music on all speaker, but it happen sometimes like 50% work then 50% chance to failed, but its annoying when its not working and crash the group speaker that play the music

Group Speaker Consist of

* 2 Nest Mini Audio

* 1 Nest Audio

* Nest Hub

* Google Chromecast

Hi RoyzeZack,

To confirm, have you tried setting up a speaker group with lesser devices? If not, please try to create a speaker group that consists of a Nest Hub and 1 Nest Audio. Let's see if you'll still have the same issue. Also, do you have a WiFi repeater or extender?

3. Group created called Sample Audio

Test Scene

1. created Group called Sample Audio

2. Added Prime Hub and Prime Audio to the group

3. Save

4. created routine called Music

5. Routine will change volume for Prime Hub and Prime audio

6. abnormal happen when i try to add action in routine to find the Prime Hub it change it name to Sample Audio, the nest hub take over the group name.

7. soo i set volume for Prime Hub which become Sample Audio now it show that in routine action as Sample Audio not the name it should be "Prime Hub"

8. adding my own custom command asking to play my playlist on Spotify using Sample Audio group

Yes, the problem still exists. But I don't care anymore, because I've switched to other products in the meantime. Not being able to play music properly for months was a no-go for us.

This is an ongoing issue with many other users as well, but unfortunately this is the main search that comes up on google for this issue.

Do you know if anyone has resolved this issue or found the source of it? All I'm seeing is people asking over and over again if the issue is solved without anyone providing any kind of solution to actually try.

Same problem here. Group with two speakers (Nest audio and nest hub 1st gen). Starting Spotify - system hangs within a few seconds. Nest hub shows Spotify splash screen.

Streaming on single speaker works.
