We're just about to rent our house out complete with Nest Thermostat. My question is - how will the new tenant control the heating in the period between taking occupation of the house and getting his internet connection sorted - possible a two week lag. Does anyone know if there are default manual settings that can be used prior to activating the Thermostat via wifi. Else it is going to be flipping cold in there!?

They will have full manual control of the thermostat even without the internet.

Sounds good Patrick, but in that case how does the Nest stat communicate with the boiler and the megaflow water tank, by radio signal or bluetooth? They aren't hard-wired together. Carl

Hi folks,
Just stopping by to see if I can be of any assistance.
@Patrick_Caezza, thanks for sharing how it works.
@carlmoss, I'm sorry for the late reply. I wanted to follow up and ensure you are good to go. The Nest thermostat can control the HVAC system as long as the wires are installed and the set up is completed with the right configurations, even without the Wi-Fi connection.
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark. I checked with the guy who installed our Nest Learning Thermostat and he advises that it will still be able to control the boiler and megaflow wirelessly (via radio signals rather than wifi). We don't have any HVAC here btw.

Hi cmoss,
Thanks for the update and for keeping us in the loop that your system works with Nest thermostat wirelessly. Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise we'll be locking the thread in 24 hours.
Best regards,
Mark
