Nest Mini ad automation not working on Android Auto

Hi, I'm having a problem with an automation on Home. I ask it to open the garden gate (Shelly), and it also responds by sending a message to the Nest Mini at home announcing my return.

If I start the automation from my phone, everything works, but if I start it from Android Auto, it only opens the gate. How is this possible? Are there some permissions missing from Android Auto?

Hi Fabioo123,

Thank you for posting in this community.

I understand that you created an automation in the Google Home app, where your Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) is working fine when you trigger it with your phone. However, when you start it from your Android Auto, it doesn't announce to you. I'm happy to look into this for you.

To get started, please provide some more information by answering these questions:

  • What is the make and model of your car?
  • What version of Android is your phone running? To check this, you can refer to this Android Auto Help Center article: Check & update your Android version
  • Has this specific automation ever worked through Android Auto before?
  • Are other Android Auto features (Maps, calls, music) working as expected?
  • Do you hear or see any specific error messages when the announcement fails?
  • Did you create this routine in the Google Home app or via the Script Editor? If you are using the Google Home app, are you using the latest version? If not, this Google Nest Help Center article provides helpful instructions: Update the Google Home app.
  • Are your phone and speaker signed into the same Google account?
  • How far from the router is your speaker?
  • Aside from this automation, is the speaker functioning as expected? Are you able to trigger other routines or control different smart devices through it without any issues?
  • What country are you located in?

In the meantime, I recommend you check the following conditions:

  1. Ensure your smartphone's operating system is fully updated.
  2. Verify that your Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) firmware is up to date. You can refer to this Google Nest Help Center article for details: Google speaker and display firmware versions and release notes.
  3. Check if you created a Household or Personal Routine:
    1. Open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap ‘Automations.’
    3. Check which section is "Household routine" or “Personal Routines.”

Please reply with the requested information and let me know how it goes after you try these recommendations.

Best regards,

Virna
